Responsible for leading, cultivating, and increasing the portfolio of connections with corporate, government, and academic partners, to foster the activities of the Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience. Responsible also for collaborating with the Center leadership in identifying strategic research directions and opportunities that can be particularly impactful for current and prospective partners. Report to the Center Director and assist them in coordinating the Center's operations and programs. 1. Facilitate new connections with corporate, government and academic partners
* Identify prospective partners
* Identify appropriate contacts at the technical and managerial levels for each partner institution
* Organize preliminary meetings, present the research portfolio of the center to prospective partners, identify needs and interests of the partners
* Organize ad-hoc meetings involving prospective partners and center faculty
* Participate in workshops, conferences and other events to identify potential partners and their interests and to promote the work of the Center
* Collaborate with the Center leadership and Lehigh's communication department in developing and maintaining effective communication material for the Center, specifically targeting government and industry partners
2. Manage the portfolio of currently active industry collaborations and relationships
* Keep correspondence with all research partners, sponsors and collaborators
* Constantly investigate needs and interests of the partners and report them in an organized and concise manner to the Center's faculty
* Collaborate with faculty and students of the Center in preparing executive progress updates in the form of written reports or slide decks and deliver the presentations if needed
* Collaborate with Center
3. Identify strategic research directions and opportunities based on partner feedback
* Stay up to date with best practices and technology in the catastrophe modeling and resilience assessment sectors
* Interact with current and prospective partners to identify their needs and areas of common interest
* Prepare periodic reports on major advancements and breakthroughs in research and practice, in the fields covered by the center
* Maintain a shared library of archival papers, organized and tagged
* Participate in strategic meetings of the Center leadership to make decisions on which research directions and projects to pursue
4. Draft consulting contracts for the Center
* Prepare scope of work documents for consulting work done by the Center, including timeline, deliverables and budget
* Act as project manager for consulting work done for industry or government organizations
* Collaborate with the principal investigators in preparing reporting material for consulting work
5. Project management for large scale proposal preparation and projects
* Act as project manager for teams within the Center preparing large collaborative proposal, ensuring that milestones are met and all the necessary documents are prepared and collected
* Act as project manager for the major projects run within the Center, assisting the principal investigator in assuring that milestones are reached, deliverable are completed and reports are prepared
* Collaborate with the Center leadership in allocating resources (personnel, financial, computational, etc.) across the research thrusts in the Center
6. Collaborate with the Center leadership in the management of the Center, its activities, programs and finances
* Run the day-to-day operations of the center
* Provide business management support to the Center
* Coordinate the organization of programs and events, such as meetings of the industry advisory board, or the upcoming IUCRC Partners Workshop
* Collaborate with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to manage Center expenditures and grants
Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's Degree preferred
Three to five years of related work experience
Familiarity with the catastrophe modeling sector or at least the insurance sector is highly preferred
Previous administrative experience is desirable
Experience collaborating and communicating with internal and external partners to build strategic relationships
