About the Team:

RELX Government Affairs is a strategic, centralized organization comprised of government affairs professionals around the globe. The team members serve as ambassadors for RELX, working thoughtfully and strategically to advance the company's public policy goals and support its diverse businesses and customers.

About the Role:

The Head of U.S. Federal Government Affairs will be a senior member of the RELX global government affairs team who will lead the U.S. federal team's public policy and advocacy efforts interfacing principally with the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Executive Branch. The role will also provide support to RELX businesses on business opportunities with the federal government.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. and will report directly to the Head of Global Government Affairs for RELX.

Responsibilities:

  • As a thoughtful, collaborative leader and people manager, develop and implement with the team effective government affairs strategy in support of the company's public policy objectives.
  • Assess proposed federal legislation and regulations to identify potential business risks and opportunities.
  • Advocate on behalf of RELX on federal legislative and regulatory proposals of interest to the company.
  • Work with trade associations and coalitions to advance the company's public policy objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to RELX business leadership to identify potential business opportunities and provide public policy input, including to help our businesses earn new federal government contracts.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in political science or a related discipline
  • A creative, proactive, and collaborative mindset
  • Interest in working in a global company with a diverse businesses in many sectors, with colleagues from around the world, and in a collegial work atmosphere
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working in U.S. federal government affairs, whether as a senior staff member on Capitol Hill or experience lobbying at the federal level for a global company, large complex organization, or trade association
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong network with Member of Congress, Hill staff, and Executive Branch officials responsible for issues related to RELX's business areas
  • Proven track record working with trade associations and coalitions
  • Experience successfully managing a strong team is preferred
