Mercer is currently recruiting for a Government Healthcare Financial Consultant to work in one of the following offices: Phoenix, Atlanta, Washington DC or Minneapolis.

Government Healthcare Financial Consultant

What can you expect?

  • The Health Care Financial Consultant will contribute to ongoing consulting work for our California Medi-Cal client. This involves the review and analysis of California Medi-Cal health plan reported performance.
  • This role will also use expertise to provide the technical review of data, manage tasks and deadlines and is a resource for the California Medi-Cal client.

We will count on you to:
  • Review financial and other reports submitted by California Medi-Cal health plans
  • Perform procedures to validate operational performance metrics and accuracy of financial data
  • Prepare analyses related to the financial and operational performance of California Medi-Cal health plans
  • Share knowledge with more junior staff and provide training as needed to complete project tasks
  • Project manage multiple tasks on different projects simultaneously to include the following: organize project work flow and delegate project tasks to more junior staff; manage the quality and timeliness of project deliverables; ensure client deliverables are client-ready
  • Create client call agendas, coordinate calls with client and project team and actively participate in client calls and meetings
  • Participate on interviewing teams and/or act as a mentor for more junior staff

What you need to have:
  • BA/BS degree
  • Minimum three years of health plan/ managed care industry experience required
  • Thorough understanding of general health care concepts, government health and welfare field preferred
  • Thorough understanding of claims liabilities, including incurred but not reported claims
  • Knowledge of MS Office Tools. Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel. Intermediate skills in Access. Intermediate skills in PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills

What makes you stand out:
  • Experience related to the California Medi-Cal data or program, health plan analysis or capitated rate development is preferred, but not required, Health plan financials reporting and monitoring experience is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment
  • Ability to partner and lead small teams to deliver project objectives
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
