Job Description:

This role will lead the global claims function for the Reinsurance Division. The scope of the role includes leading and building a world class claim organization, providing claims oversight across all products and geographies, partnering with underwriting to analyze claims trends and recommend changes to guidelines, working with actuarial on assessing complex, multi-line exposures, and developing a robust and consistent post-catastrophe approach to claims estimation.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Global oversight of claims across all products, focusing on overall claims consistency, thought leadership, best practices, lessons learned and trainings across all regions and products in reinsurance
  • Formulation of claims practices based on current and evolving market and product trends
  • Development of formalized lessons learned capabilities to ensure claim insights are communicated, and training is designed and delivered
  • Delivery of timely and impactful analytics to help steer portfolio management and divisional strategy
  • Ensuring technical consistency in the post-CAT estimation process in close coordination with Actuarial
  • Driving operational efficiency through automation and technology investments
  • Serving as the key strategic claims partner for other executive leaders
  • Engaging with the regional claims teams to achieve consistency and best practice through oversight and governance
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with internal underwriting and distribution teams in order to provide excellent customer focus that understands and meets clients' needs
  • Building and maintaining strong and effective relationships with key business stakeholders, internally and externally, to ensure that service delivery meets expectations
  • Developing tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion

About the Ideal Candidate:

You've held senior claims leadership positions in global, national, or specialty (re)insurance claim businesses and are at ease in senior executive environments.

You've enjoyed success in diverse claims roles, leading at scale in multiple companies resulting in career progression and a broad set of claims experiences.

You're a disciplined decision-maker who focuses on filtering all available information, rapidly contextualizing it, and quickly making the most appropriate decision while also understanding that changes can be made as more data becomes available.

You thrive in a fast-paced, high energy and high-commitment matrix environment.

Management
  • Manage all claims related matters as well as the analysis, reserve development and execution of claims strategies to deliver optimal loss cost management and customer satisfaction in support of overall business objectives
  • Develop and implement claim best practices and strong policies and procedures for proper and consistent claim performance, compliance, and achievement of business goals
  • Demonstrate ability in the use of advanced and innovative metrics and data to drive continuous improvement and increased efficiencies
  • Drive the development, implementation, and ongoing review of all claim programs, metrics, processes, results, and initiatives
  • Manage internal claims employees and professional advisors to achieve high standards of productivity, efficiency, and alignment of organizational goals
  • Identify and closely direct the review and resolution of complex and high exposure claims

Customer Service
  • Establish relationships with key brokers and cedants to maximize the competitive advantage derived from the Claims operation
  • Attend marketing, key account renewal, and other broker meetings as appropriate to communicate our claims handling philosophy and the market leading position of the function
  • Attend industry conventions and events and become a sought out thought leader on developing / emerging reinsurance claims issues

Trend Analysis and Policy Language Support
  • Collaboration with the Everest's Reinsurance Leadership Team in loss trend, coverage, and exposure analysis for existing and new business opportunities
  • Identify issues and trends in the portfolio; taking appropriate and/or corrective action where necessary; communicate trends and observations to underwriters
  • Collaborate with underwriting on current and proposed policy language to support business objectives

Compliance & Professional Development
  • Establish clear reserving standards and ensure that those standards are continually met
  • Ensure the continual professional development of claims professionals on the team by coordinating both internal and external training and development opportunities
  • Cultivate a departmental culture that excels in communication and collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, and state regulations related to claims while minimizing risk/exposure to the organization

What You Bring
  • Minimum 15 years of claims experience in progressively senior leadership roles at P&C (Re)insurers
  • Proven track record of excellence in managing and developing large claims operations
  • Ability to think strategically balanced with practical day-to-day execution
  • Bachelor's Degree required; other advanced degree especially Juris Doctor a plus
  • Knowledge of market leading claims management software, tools and best practices
