We are currently seeking a Flooring Installer who will install different types of flooring and floor covering in both residential and commercial buildings. They will work with different product types including carpeting, vinyl and tile. They may also work with unique specialty products including ceramic tile, concrete or wood flooring. Flooring can be very ornate depending on the type of building or home that the flooring is being installed in.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Experience up to journeyman level flooring installer in the general installation, repair and maintenance of all types of flooring.

Preferred:

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, equipment, materials, and safety of the trade.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

  • Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a 3-year safe driving record.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demolish existing flooring materials.
  • Repair flooring substrate.
  • Layout flooring projects.
  • Install wide range of flooring materials including tile, vinyl plank and other specialty products.
  • Perform carpentry trim work on walls and doors.
  • Measure installation areas and cut materials to fit.
  • Clear and prepare the work surface from dust, debris, and obstructions.
  • Prepare installation surfaces after inspecting them for flawless results.
  • Utilize and mix grout for tile flooring.
  • Apply adhesives correctly and used rollers to ensure vinyl floors do not have bubbles.
  • Perform resident maintenance work order requests and preventative maintenance as needed on occupied homes in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Dependability
  • Ability to use all needed flooring installation tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure to meet stringent deadlines
  • Ability to identify and know how to work with different types of flooring materials.
  • Ability to use hand tools including tape measure and chalk line.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools unique to each type of flooring being installed.
  • Ability to address small carpentry and trim related issues including planing door bottoms.
  • Ability to work on hands and knees to install flooring products.
  • Ability to layout flooring projects before installation starts.
  • Measuring skills.
  • Exhibits excellent communication skills and works well with customers and coworkers.
  • Good at measuring, experienced with tile cutting grouting and installations

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and campuses. Considerable amount of physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling required of objects 80bs. Physical work is primary (more than 70%) of the job.

Working Conditions: Required to work a flexible schedule.

Working Environment: This position works in a very exposed environment. Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous material, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.

Salary: Amarillo College Staff Salary Schedule grade 9
