Job Summary

Alliant Energy has a great opportunity to join our team as a Floor Operator at Prairie Creek Generating Station in Cedar Rapids!

In this critical role, you will perform maintenance and operation of boiler and related equipment to provide for cost effective and safe generation. You will work effectively with other work team members and management on a rotating shift basis. You will assist Operating Crew Foreman and/or Control Room Operator in the overall operation of high pressure steam generators, steam turbine generator; station auxiliaries for a given shift.

What you will do

  • Serve on a team to efficiently and safely operate the plant boiler and maintain it and associated equipment.
  • Work effectively with other work team members and management on a rotating shift basis.
  • Assist OCF and CRO by possessing proficiency in plant operating systems.
  • Communication with fellow employees in giving and receiving orders, keeping others informed, log book entries, etc.
  • Starts, operates, inspects, and shuts down all steam generators, steam turbine generating units and all associated auxiliary equipment as requested by OCF, CRO or management.
  • Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows on all operating equipment and controls.
  • At direction of OCF or CRO, receives and executes orders relative to the various changing conditions such as load changes or equipment start up and shut down.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment with the instruction of the OCF and CRO that are not automated from within the control room.
  • According to location may operate switchgear as instructed.
  • Make minor repairs and replacements on station equipment and report other maintenance requirements.
  • Supervise and assist in training of other operating employees.
  • Assist in Lock Out/Tag Out procedures to put equipment in and out of service.
  • Perform PM and may assist with maintenance work.
  • Clean boiler passes, preheaters, flues, ducts, ash pits and pyrites by removing ashes as required.
  • Perform other related work as required for the safe, orderly, efficient and harmonious operation of the plant.
  • Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience working in an industrial setting operating and troubleshooting equipment preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good reading comprehension, mathematics skills
  • P&ID's, operating manuals, technical manuals
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend RIGHT TO KNOW information
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies
  • Capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution
  • Basic computer skill required.
