Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) / Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) / Instructor / Senior Instructor / Assistant Professor (Open Rank) in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Track for a part-time, (0.20 to 0.60) FTE, benefits-eligible position at Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Expansion Project SB21-137. This position will primarily provide direct clinical guidance to agencies across the state to establish and/or expand MAT programs throughout the state of Colorado - primarily rural sites. This position includes an Instructor / Senior Instructor / Assistant Professor (Open Rank) level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Clinic Description:

Purpose: Execute the Colorado MAT Expansion Program as outlined in C.R.S 23-21-804, serving Coloradans with opioid use disorder in the following counties: Routt, Pueblo, Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande, Saguache, Custer, Huerfano, and two additional counties with demonstrated need.

Goal One: Increase the number of advance practice registered nurses and physician assistants who have been trained to, and subsequently, prescribe buprenorphine and other medications and therapies approved by the federal food and drug administration as part of a MAT program.

Goal Two: Increase access to MAT services (which include both MAT and behavioral therapies) for individuals with OUD in the designated program counties by increasing referral pathways and numbers of patients served.

Supervision Received:

Direct supervision will be provided by the Clinical Director and PI of the MAT Expansion Program

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Provision of MAT treatment to adult populations, including naltrexone and buprenorphine products
  • Provision of detox treatments in adult populations, including for those with alcohol use disorders and opioid use disorders
  • Assessment, management of substance use disorders in children, adolescents, and adults
  • Assessment and management of acute psychiatric emergencies such as suicidality and OD across the lifespan
  • Provides direct mentoring and guidance for new providers of MAT in clinics across CO
  • Provides direct supervision and collaboration with community agency staff in clinics across CO
  • Provision of acute and chronic primary care for the clinic's Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric populations receiving MAT
  • Performs the full scope of Nurse Practitioner duties, to include comprehensive physical examination, diagnosis, evaluation & treatment of both chronic and acute illness. Refers to specialists when indicated.
  • Provides or guides Culturally & Linguistically Appropriate Services to patients from diverse backgrounds in an underserved, resource-limited setting
  • Can coordinate patient care needs with other Care Team members, to include RN Case Managers, Referral Coordinators, Behavioral Health Team members and Pharmacy Team members.
  • Provides or guides individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing current, evidence-based guidelines.
  • Provides or guides health education to patients, students, families, and/or community health partners
  • Collaborates on Quality Improvement Initiatives under the direction of the Clinical Director
  • Improves and supports care delivery both within the service line and clinic-wide, by guiding or participating in programmatic planning, Team-based huddles and integrated or all-staff meetings as requested by the site Leads and Clinical Director
  • Shared point of contact for agencies for complex MAT case consult and coaching.
  • Serves as community outreach liaison, attending community events, establishing contacts, providing education to agencies and community partners.
  • Coordinates meetings, associate research, and MAT programming activity.
  • Completes regular site visits and coaching in person and on Zoom
  • Identifies training needs for individual agencies and conducts training as necessary in conjunction with training requirements.
  • Must have reliable transportation and willing to travel to or among various rural sites within project service area.
  • Performs problem identification and needs assessment at a clinic level for rural areas of the state.
  • Formulates innovative solutions and approaches designed to improve and enhance health care in rural areas.
  • Upholds compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
  • Maintains Electronic Health Record documentation in compliance with accepted standards, in keeping with the Policies & Procedures of the clinic. Must meet rigorous standards for documentation, and complete notes, referrals, and follow-ups in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

$90,414 - $101,716 annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice/FNP

$99,839 - $112,319 annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice/PMHNP

In addition to the annual salary for this position, an annual administrative stipend will also be offered.

  • Ability to use computer and clinic software, and to document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients, their families, and other members of the health care team
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to perform clinical teaching
  • Ability to maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, credentialing materials and other required documents as outlined by the Office of Clinical and Community Affairs at the College of Nursing.
  • Ability to effectively develop and promote practice through participation in marketing and patient recruitment
