Description
Under limited supervision, performs skilled construction, installation, alteration, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work in all building trades and/or equipment maintenance activities. Incumbent works individually or as a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing his/her own work.

Location: Civil Engineering, 2445 West Furnas Ave, Lincoln, NE 68524

Schedule: Flexible schedule that includes flex time and the option of 8, 9, or 10 hour days.
Examples of Work
Primary responsible for the maintenance and sustainment of all Nebraska Air National Guard (NEANG) facility structural systems. Performs preventative maintenance actions such as testing safety edges, inspections, and operational and functional checks. Conducts condition assessments for required repairs. Researches parts, pieces, and components which facilitate maintenance and sustainment activities. Ensures compliance with military, federal and state safety standards, codes and requirements. Completes customer related work orders pertaining to facility maintenance on a daily basis. Completes maintenance records on facility equipment and special purpose vehicles. Cleans, repairs, and maintains all tools and equipment used in the structural maintenance trade. Estimates time, cost, and materials required for the completion of work orders. Maintains inventory of shop stock materials and parts, requisitions materials as necessary. Tracks and enters time spent against work orders to show cost analysis. Operates and maintains shop vehicles and equipment, to include a high reach lift. Operates other heavy equipment when needed. Obtains proper permits to accomplish work to be completed. Trains new employees or other crafts persons in proper techniques for operations of equipment and/or repair of facilities. Other duties as assigned to include escorting contractors, snow removal operations, assisting other CE crafts persons.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance trade and one year of experience OR three years' experience in skilled maintenance, construction or mechanical trades and experience leading/directing others in such work; experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Experience in structural repairs.

OTHER: Position requires bending/moving/carrying/pushing/pulling; lifting 50 lbs., working from ladders or other heights, working in confined spaces and working in extreme/inclement weather; to be available during non-scheduled hours to respond to emergency facility needs, and/or weather related emergencies. Valid Nebraska driver's license at time of hire is required. Applicant will be required to pass a criminal background check. Incumbent must also achieve and maintain an appropriate level security clearance, failure to do so may result in termination of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE OF: Advanced methods, tools, and practices of various building and mechanical trades; the methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work; the qualities and adaptability of various materials used to complete assigned tasks; the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building and mechanical trades; preventative maintenance procedures used in building maintenance operations; The person filling this position should have a working knowledge of all the maintenance trades, low voltage electrical work and general maintenance on buildings, the infrastructure of the facility including sewer, natural gas, water/electrical distribution and experience with direct digital controls.

SKILL IN: The use of a variety of basic hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

ABILITY TO: Perform skilled (advanced level) maintenance work in a variety of building and mechanical trades; troubleshoot and identify problems, determine the materials and equipment necessary to install, repair, and adjust building structures, equipment, and fixtures understand and follow instructions; determine appropriate work procedures; interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, layout designs, and specifications; make accurate estimates of time, cost, and materials required to complete a work order; use/operate hand and power tools and power equipment in a safe manner; perform manual labor; care for/maintain hand and power tools essential for maintenance and repair work; work in tight spaces and at some distance from the ground. Be able to read blue prints. Conduct real property inspections. Handle outdoor physical work to include climbing on roof tops.
