TITLE:   Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher

POSITION NO: P09693

DIVISION: Tallahassee Collegiate Academy

HIRING SALARY: starting at $50,000.00 annually; negotiable based on education and experience

HOURS:   7:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M., Monday - Friday.

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher manages instructional programs for students with varying exceptionalities. The ESE Teacher consults regularly with students and parents to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. The ESE Teacher participates in all steps of the IEP process. The ESE Teacher works closely with other teachers and professionals to ensure that the school's exceptional student education program is successful and operating in compliance with federal and state regulations. The teacher is the most critical link between the instructional program and the students who will be served. Those employed by TCA will have completed an extensive review by TCA to ensure they meet the standards for the school both in delivery of instruction and establishment of the learning community and student-centered atmosphere. Teachers will be expected to fulfill the role of instructional leader at all times.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and provide instructional guidance, teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students.
  • Develop, write and help implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Evaluate tests and assessments, complete progress reports and conduct parent conferences.
  • Provides General Education Instructors with suggested strategies/accommodations to best meet individual needs of Students with Disabilities (SWD).
  • Communicate regularly with parents of students with exceptionalities to ensure that their IEP goals are being met and are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion.
  • Consult with teachers and other staff in coordination and implementation of specially designed instruction, as defined in the IEP/504 plan for students with specific needs and identified learning issues.
  • Provide direct instructional services to students.
  • Schedule, organize and facilitate IEP/504 plan related meetings.
  • Participate in the school's Student Support Team by helping teachers and parents develop and implement program modifications and strategies for all students.
  • Assist with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process.
  • Assist with locating service providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school's Student Information System.
  • Assist with administering state testing and coordinate special accommodations that are required based on the IEP/504 plan.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others.
  • Provide for the safety and welfare of any and all students of the School.
  • Provide instruction that contributes to academic growth and positive development of students;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter to be taught;
  • Assess the progress of the students assigned;
  • Report student progress and performance to parents at scheduled intervals and as specific individual needs arise;
  • Report student progress information to School officials at scheduled intervals;
  • Plan, organize and create a positive classroom learning environment;
  • Maintain discipline of students;
  • Establish classroom guidelines which support the policies of the school and enhance the learning environment for the students;
  • Follow and uphold the policies of the School and assist students with appropriate behavior and actions that reflect the policies of the School;
  • Organize and participate in School activities and functions which may occur outside the regular School schedule;
  • Collaborate with instructional staff to coordinate instructional activities and resources within and across the curriculum;
  • Support colleagues in the delivery of instruction as it pertains to areas of specialty;
  • Assist with management and supervision of students throughout the School day;
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings;
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as established by the School leadership;
  • Follow the curriculum guidelines to implement project-based and place-based educational experiences for students in accordance with the school's curriculum goals;
  • Contribute to the learning community atmosphere of the School; and
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information as required by school policy and Florida and Federal Law.

Seeking a candidate with one or more of the following certification areas:

Academic Endorsements - preference given to candidates with one or more of the following endorsements:

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor's degree and valid Florida teaching certificate required for subject and grade being taught; holds a valid Florida teaching certificate with coverage other than that required under the Florida Course Code Directory or, has been properly identified as qualified non-certificated instructional personnel with expert skill or knowledge in accordance with Rule 6A-1.0502, F.A.C.

Preference given to teachers who have Reading Endorsement, Gifted Endorsement, ESOL Endorsement, and who hold multiple certifications.

Experience in policy compliance (IDEA and other Exceptional Student Education regulations)

TERMS

Teachers report to the principal; this is a 10-month position.
