- Supervises technical personnel in the development of new mining method and techniques and in modification of existing equipment and systems to reduce costs and improve mining efficiencies. Directs tests and trails of new equipment and systems. Recommends, after appraisal and trail, the purchase of mining equipment or the adoption of new techniques.
- Assists in directing the mine exploration program and other phases of geological activity including grade control, sampling, securing of mining leases and permits, surface and underground drilling, and tonnage and grade calculations for royalty payments. Supervises short-range and long-range mine planning for most efficient layout, maximum extraction and ore grade control.
- Assists in furnishing ore reserve and ore grade estimates for both short and long-range planning, directs the preparation of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual progress maps, assay, contour, ventilation and ore reserve maps
