Engine Development Dynamometer Technician (1st/2nd Shift)

The Engine Development Dyno Technician supports the Engineering Community in the development of hardware and calibrations for internal combustion engines to be used in future General Motors vehicles. This role provides the information to make decisions that affect quality, durability, and performance the customer will experience.

As a Technician, the individual will report to the Group Leader assigned to his/her assigned area of responsibility. They will receive daily assignments through their Team Leader and work side by side with the Test Engineers, Calibrators, and Suppliers to support the testing requirements in the Engine Dyno Test Cells. The Technician will be responsible for mechanical work and maintenance of the test article, executing the test plan, and utilizing the GMS (Global Manufacturing System) system to achieve metrics. Responsibilities are a mix of standardized work and unique situations that require a high level of innovation and analytical thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion safety for themselves and others in all aspects of the work.
  • Conduct a wide variety of procedural and non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing.
  • Collect, review, and validate testing data for accuracy and quality.
  • Interface with product, and testing engineers on updates to new testing procedures, equipment, and methods.
  • Work closely with Lab Engineering & Instrumentation & Equipment teams to provide information and guidance relative to test cell status and performance.
  • Applying problem solving techniques to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure equipment calibrations are up to date and do not put data integrity at risk.
Minimum Requirements
  • 2-year associate degree in mechanical/engineering field, or 5+ years of equivalent experience in related field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability to install and remove engines on a dynamometer.
  • 5+ years of experience in hooking up instrumentation and performing diagnostics.
  • 5+ years of experience in engine component installation and replacement.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Intimate understanding of Gasoline and/or Diesel internal combustion engines.
  • Mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with PUMA, INCA, Indicom test bed software.
  • Aptitude in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook etc.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
  • Ability to work off shifts.

Preferred Requirements
  • 10+ years of hands on experience in Engine Development and/or Engine Validation Testing
  • 5+ years of experience in PUMA, INCA, & Indicom Test Bed Systems.
  • 5+ years of Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Engineering, Automotive, Leadership, or related field.
