Job Summary:

The Design Engineer works as part of a team to engineer and design new products and/or components. May include mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop methods, components, systems, or products to achieve VPI requirements
  • Develop appropriate test specifications and/or test methods. Conduct or direct relevant testing
  • Work with engineering product development team. Includes preparing drawings for manufacturing
  • Analyze and resolve technical issues for components and products.
  • Assist with product start-ups. May include working on the assembly line during start-up, establishing QC criteria, helping with assembly procedures, etc.
  • Assist with engineering publications and communication. Includes communicating relevant information to other VPI personnel and departments
  • Interface with other departments to accomplish product, project, and company goals.
  • Responsible for components of the design.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Engineering (ME or ME Technology, preferred) or relevant design experience
  • Strong process and problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent project and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work on multiple projects
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills - professional, courteous, friendly and helpful
  • Successfully demonstrated strong verbal communication
  • Experience with 3D modeling systems (preferably Solid Edge)
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills (Microsoft Office, Internet)
  • Working knowledge of machines and power & hand tools (including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance)
  • Ability to bend, squat, walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs.
  • Safety conscious (for the working environment and product design)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Product development experience in the turf equipment or agricultural machinery industries
  • Experience with AutoCad
  • Successfully demonstrated strong written communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of metal working and welding
  • Working knowledge of mechanical drives, hydraulics, and 12volt electrical systems.
