TheEngineer in Training (Electrical Engineering Associate)reports to and assists the Manager, Reliability & Maintenance, in electrical maintenance planning, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting and works closely with the plant and the Electrical Engineering Manager to identify reliability improvement opportunities and deploy best practices. The goal of the EIT program is the development of technically talented, team-oriented engineers for future technical or supervisory roles within Martin Marietta. The program represents a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to begin their career in a hands-on manufacturing operation with significant potential to apply good problem-solving skills and where the main goal is learning an industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer Associate (EIT Program)

  • Perform all duties to promote a safe work environment and safe job performance. Actively participate in all plant safety programs as directed by management.
  • Complete the Engineer in Training (EIT) program (approximate duration of 104 weeks). This program provides on-the-job and formal training and exposure to other areas of our business.
  • Participate in projects and optimization efforts as a training exercise
  • Identify and implement projects or procedures that improve reliability and reduce plant operating costs safely, sustainably, and environmentally responsible.
  • Participate and assist in troubleshooting electrical problems and identifying solutions to reduce downtime and minimize maintenance costs.
  • Assist in developing maintenance procedures to ensure that documentation is accurate and understandable.
  • Interface with all levels of management and employees to gather information and provide guidance for implementation, including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructional media for hourly employees.
  • As management requires, prepare and conduct entry-level training for supervisors and hourly personnel on electrical equipment condition assessment and inspection to help develop general troubleshooting ability.
  • Assist in initiating, developing, and implementing plant improvement projects, including conceptualizing capital projects and justification of same.
  • Work to maintain/further develop expertise and proficiency in cement production.
  • Participate in technical support assignments to other plants and facilities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical).
  • No experience is required for the Electrical Engineer Associate.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of database, design, internet, and manufacturing software
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.

  • Walk/stand on uneven ground, walkways, and catwalks throughout the workday
  • Climb up to 60 feet above the ground on ladders and catwalks
  • Must be available to walk, crawl, kneel and climb ladders/stairs to inspect facilities and observe work activities.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The capability of working for long periods in extreme heat and dusty areas, confined spaces, and heights.
  • Ability to climb stairs and work at heights (up to 350'). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and enclosed spaces and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
