The Manager EHS is responsible for managing a comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety and Sustainability program. EHS Senior Manager must analyze existing and planned operations, projects, process, equipment, and facilities and develop cost effective action plans to ensure compliance with all internal and external requirements.

This responsibility encompasses all aspects of budgeting, planning, cost control, contractor administration, organizational development, training, auditing, and inspections. Provides guidance to facility leaders to ensure customer focus and prioritization while fostering Zoetis values and leader behaviors. Participate as a key member of the Eagle Grove Leadership Team (EGLT).

The Manager, EHS is responsible for establishing a world class environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, and loss prevention programs supportive of Zoetis business interests, colleague wellbeing and achieving OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification.

The position is accountable for providing expert support to Zoetis colleagues and operations at Americas API/MFA manufacturing site (30%) Support can include but not be limited to Zoetis Sustainability initiatives, VPP Certification, Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (PIE), Auditing, EHS Contractor Management, etc.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures Compliance with all Federal, State and local environmental, safety and industrial hygiene requirements.
  • Anticipates the regulatory climate, and informs management of the potential financial and operational impact of pending legislation.
  • Provides leadership through establishment of policies and services to protect the health and safety of colleagues, protects Zoetis operations and the public.
  • Responsible for ensuring that EHS management systems are in place to ensure a high degree of environmental health and safety regulatory compliance.
  • Generates and files reports to agencies on a timely basis.
  • Evaluates practices that could cause losses and implements appropriate steps to reduce risks.
  • Serves as technical advisor to management on all Safety, Health, Environment, process safety and industrial hygiene aspects involved in the manufacture, storage, and delivery.
  • Develops for promulgation safety and industrial hygiene policies and procedures.
  • Provides technical EHS supervision to ensure the incorporation of safety management recommendations and compliance with environmental, safety and health standards for new facilities, equipment or major modifications.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving all projects involving environmental health and safety in new construction or modifications.
  • Develops, establishes, and coordinates the emergency response program for Eagle Grove operations.
  • Ensures Eagle Grove environmental, safety and industrial hygiene practices conform to government regulations and corporate policy.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of health and safety management systems to move Eagle Grove operations strategically and directionally beyond regulatory compliance. Monitors the status of these programs.
  • Supervises the submittal of all environmental health and safety reports in a complete and timely fashion as required by regulatory authorities or corporate policy.
  • Prepares for corporate environmental health and safety assessments and coordinates in the preparation follow-up action plans. Coordinates the timely remediation of findings. Performs periodic self-assessment as required by corporate policy.
  • Host's government inspections, coordinates inspection reports and ensures the timely correction of any outstanding items as a result of inspections.
  • In conjunction with facility engineering, ensures that systems are in place to identify the impacts upon Health and Safety for Capital Expenditure Requests, product transfers, or other changes in manufacturing that may impact these areas.
  • Represents the Site by providing expert witness testimony and legal deposition on industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, process safety, ergonomics and loss prevention matters. Participates with trade and professional associations whose interests coincide with those of Zoetis. External contacts are with OSHA/EPA agency personnel at all administrative levels, outside technical consultants, outside legal counsel, and EHS colleagues at other pharmaceutical companies.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with regulatory agencies that permit beneficial negotiations pertaining to company interest.
  • Provides technical support to internal public affairs specialists and represents the Company during public meetings, hearings, and emergency situations.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) as they relate to Eagle Grove operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or other Engineering or Science Degree. MS degree or higher is preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in Health and Safety Management in a process safety industrial setting.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
  • CIH, CSP or other applicable certification, preferred
  • Knowledgeable in the fields of industrial hygiene, safety engineering, OSHA VPP certification, toxicology, environmental and occupational health.
  • Excellent leadership, analysis, judgment, and communication skills commensurate with position responsibilities and with required interaction with agencies and all levels of Zoetis
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills, salesmanship, creativity, practical problem solving, flexibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to access all areas of the manufacturing facility, including routinely walking and climbing ladders/stairs, and lifting up to 55 pounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in both warehouse and office settings. Physical requirements may include:
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment is required with ability to access all areas of the facility.
