OVERVIEW

Internship Employee

Location: Remote

As an Additive Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will support our Air Force and Department of Defense (DOD) clients across several key locations. The Mechanical Engineer Intern will assist in the adoption of designs into the aerospace and military domains including qualification of designs, material equivalency determinations, quality control requirements, production control, and configuration management. This position is a key part of the team leading additive manufacturing implementation and maturation for the Air Force and the other military services.

The proposed salary range for this position is $24-27 per hour. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with appropriate production and process staff to understand the material specifications sought for a particular application or product.
  • Working knowledge of additive manufacturing materials and limitations
  • Experience in applying additive manufacturing practice to production
  • Identifies, selects, and recommends materials based on weight, strength, heat and cold tolerance, cost, and durability.
  • Measures performance of various materials in accordance with specifications.
  • Observes or participates in product testing process as appropriate.
  • When a material fails, gathers data and analyzes the reasons why the material did not meet specifications.
  • Reports testing results to material producer; identifies when applicable the reasons the selected material did or did not fulfill desired specifications
  • Collaborates with process engineers as part of a development and fabrication team to create a new material when none of the suggested materials meet specifications.
  • Support operational strategies aligned within your program and initiatives that optimize processes, enhance productivity, and ensure quality across all program functions.
  • Ensure 100% of planned hours are worked and recorded
  • Identify and forward to your leadership any opportunities that could lead to growth within your work area
  • Ensure all contractual deliverables are met/exceeded to the customer's satisfaction
  • Completes personal PDP and attend Staff Meeting and Storytime (with camera on)
  • Within your program, build productive and positive professional relationships with clients
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Clearance: Eligibility to obtain a Secret Level Clearance (Secret Clearance Preferred)
  • Years of Experience/Education: 0 - 2 years of experience and currently enrolled in an Institution working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering

  • Understanding of industry best practice in qualification of AM designs
  • Understanding of industry best practice in AM quality control
  • Understanding of additive manufacturing types, limitations, and printing considerations in adapting parts for 3D printing preferred
  • Highly motivated and innovative thinker capable of working with minimal oversight to achieve given objectives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill sets

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry and more specifically the KC-135, B-52, B-1,and E-3 aircraft
  • Working knowledge of System Program Office systems engineering concepts and practical applications
  • Ability to read and understand legacy 2D drawings
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices
  • Experience with Creo Parametric in creating and modifying model-based definition technical data packages
  • Experience with SolidWorks in creating and modifying model-based definition technical data packages
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, SAE AMS Y14.5
  • Experience in performing finite element analysis and simulations
