The University of Miami has great opportunity for a Director, Student Account Services to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, Student Accounts the Director, leads and executes the operational activities within the Office of Student Accounts which includes billing of student accounts receivables, validation of tuition/fee charges, management of outsourced payment plans, approval/processing involving data transfers, and compliance with IRS regulations for tax forms generated. Additionally, the director provides direction and leadership in student financial management, student accounts fiscal policies, maintains standard student financial accounting procedures and high-quality thorough customer service to external departments, students, delegates, and leadership.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Manages, hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, and disciplines student account staff members. Provides thorough specialized student accounts service to students and delegates, and university executive leadership, upon request. Demonstrates proficiency with student financial concepts to support student accounts operational processes and services to ensure daily team tasks are completed. Exercises authority to provide special payment arrangements on behalf of the University. Resolves complex student problems and questions regarding student finances. Directs and approves the processing of student account adjustments, deposits, refunds, and holds. Oversees and provides support for applicable IRS forms and assistance with year-end audit requests. Coordinates and provides other departments with student accounts guidance and support. Establishes and continuously assesses to maintain the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within their assigned task and responsibilities including university policy and procedures. Maintains standard operation procedures for the Office of Student Accounts.

  • Directly manages the student third party sponsor term billing, daily student refund process, student payment options and billing of outstanding student balances.
  • Directly manages and supports the operations to ensure accuracy of the student accounts' and provide thorough customer service support on behalf of the Office of Student Accounts.
  • Lead the coordination of external student service units for the timing of the term billing and manage communications for the Office of Student Accounts.
  • Provides management with term specific reporting and monthly reporting, upon request.
  • Knowledge of student system cashiering-payment module for processing Accounts Receivable payments as well as Non-Accounts Receivable payments for example, cash, checks, wires, 529 Plan payments and outside scholarships processed by the Office of Student Accounts.
  • Provides support for the online payment portals and incoming bank wires to ensure timely payment postings and follow up on any potential system discrepancies that may impact customer service are addressed timely by the Office of Student Accounts.
  • Work closely with the Office of Student Accounts management team to maintain the unit's home page website to date and accurate.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required, Master's Degree in relevant field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in operations, preferably in a higher education setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
  • Strong knowledge of student financial processes and procedures, operations, and management.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail/accuracy, with the ability to identify and set priorities and effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a diverse team with varying skillsets.
  • Ability to solve problems and provide excellent service.
  • Knowledgeable of student information systems (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions), is highly preferred
