Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Producer of Multi-Platform Initiatives, the Director of Production will supervise the output of national, local or digital series produced, co-produced or presented to PBS and to create, develop and execute auxiliary promotional events. The Director will develop, manage, supervise and improve the programming, overseeing research & development, production, delivery and distribution matters - ensuring that the quality, journalistic integrity, and attention to budgetary considerations are consistent with Thirteen's programming standards and practices, and in line with approved budgets. Specific responsibilities include:
* In collaboration with the EP of Multiplatform Initiatives, oversees the liaison between production activity and non-production areas (such as publicity, outreach, web, distribution and fundraising) as well as developing and maintaining relationships with PBS and other distributors and co-production partners.
* Represents WNET on the national and international production market, taking pitches and maintaining good relationships with internal and external content creators.
* Responsible for procurement, development and funding of new projects; monitoring budget and staffing allocations for relevant productions.
* Maintains editorial control and oversight of all projects in production.
* Exercising editorial judgment and authority in the evaluation and approval of subject matter for national production for broadcast.
* Assessing the feasibility of projects/programs as related to THIRTEEN/WNET's priorities and managing same through the various production stages (i.e., contracts, research and development, pre-production, production and delivery).
* Managing director level responsibilities for all assigned special projects as related to WNET/PBS programming.
* Maintaining an awareness of all active project/story proposals, treatments and script under consideration for documentaries programming.
* Supervising all production staff and overseeing staff for THIRTEEN/WNET co-productions.
* Additional duties, as assigned.

Qualifications include:
* A minimum of five (5) years of experience in content production managing program development with direct supervisory responsibility for staff.
* Demonstrated experience as a TV Producer producing and delivering nationally broadcast programs.
* Familiarity in developing new programming for independent production, cable, or PBS broadcast programming.
* Thorough understanding of budgets and budget management.
* Excellent editorial judgment; superior oral, written, communication and project management skills.
* Strong planning and problem-solving skills
* Working knowledge of the independent production community.
* Experience with project development in not-for-profit programming or initiatives.
