The Director of Career Services is a twelve-month full-time salary position in the College of Applied Studies and Academic Success (CASAS). In close collaboration with the Executive Director of Academic and Career Success, the Director provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive career services available to residential and online students, as well as alumni. This servant leader oversees employer engagement initiatives and career coaching programs to enhance student career opportunities and career readiness. The Director also fosters relationships with internal and external stakeholders that enhance student retention, experience, and outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop, execute, and assess evidence-based and data-driven strategic plans for employer engagement and career coaching programming that enhance the student experience while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and resources.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and trust within the Career Services team, and oversee the recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of team members.
  • Work jointly with departments across Liberty, including academic leadership, to meet students' needs, while building and maintaining relationships with local, regional and global corporations/organizations as appropriate.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to enhance student retention and ensure alignment of career readiness resources with vocational goals while maintaining effective communication with students.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Employer Relations in researching, planning, executing, and evaluating all employer-related activities while collaborating with other departments, like Development and the schools/colleges, to enhance the employer recruitment process and identify areas for growth and development.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Career Coaching in creating and maintaining relationships, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni, so Career Coaches and other Liberty employees can assist students and alumni in successfully navigating the career development process.
  • Engage with all Career Services staff to identify, develop, and disseminate effective career development resources for students, alumni, and employers while contributing input on all marketing materials.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's Christian model and Mission - Training Champions for Christ.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Director of Career Services has 3 direct reports (Assistant Director of Employer Relations, Assistant Director of Career Coaching, and Office Manager) and oversees an office of 17 full-time employees and 7 student employees.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in human resources, business, counseling, education, or related discipline OR comparable experiences.
  • 4+ years of individual or combined relevant professional experience in career services, human resources, or higher education
  • 4+ years of leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of undergraduate students, student development, career coaching, academic advising, student retention, student success strategies and services, educational theory and practice, FERPA regulations and other ethical/legal issues relevant to higher education
  • Proven experience with critical thinking, producing and analyzing reports and proposals, and resolving organizational and individual problems in collaboration with other professionals as appropriate
  • Demonstrated others-focused, growth-mindset individual with an interdisciplinary approach to program growth and development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of individual or relevant professional experience in career services, human resources, or higher education
  • 7+ years of leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • Experience building high functioning teams that deliver results that align with the mission and direction of leadership in the organization.
  • Knowledge of or experience with NACE and/or VACE

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.

  • Computer skills

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • May be required to travel throughout Virginia.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally. (Edit for duties performed outside office environment.)

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
