BROAD FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Access, the Director is responsible for leading efforts to help evolve, innovate, and modernize JDRF's systems and processes with the goal of establishing the organization as a major player in global health.

First and foremost, the ideal candidate must be a visionary with the ability to bring his/her strategic ideas to fruition. She/he implements creative solutions through proactive sourcing and contracting of emerging products, applying cost-wise principles, and capitalizing on the strengths of staff to maximize their contribution to JDRF's goals. He/she will integrate strong project management into all activities owned by the function, bringing in projects (both the Global portfolio as well as tangible tools) on time and on budget through unwavering attention to these guiding principles and fostering a team environment of joint accountability. The Director must be skilled at influencing diverse stakeholders to galvanize endorsement from JDRF Leadership and drive uptake from staff to ensure JDRF maximizes its return on investment. Accordingly, he/she oversees a nexus of activities that not only have direct impact on the daily operations and deliverables of the Global Access Department but, through a deep understanding of JDRF, a keen awareness of other functions' needs, and a goal to open channels of collaboration; leverages appropriate information and people to make the once-thought impossible, possible. The Director architects the seamless integration of systems, people, and information within the Global Access Department and across the organization to capitalize on resources and merge diverse functions into one comprehensive business to support JDRF's mission and strategic goals.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate abstract needs into tangible realities while working within a resource constrained environment
  • Grow institutional capabilities through recruitment and retention of professional, skilled, dedicated staff and implementation of progressive systems that put JDRF at the pinnacle of the innovation curve for non-profits.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve processes, team standard operating procedures, systems and technology, measurement practices, and metrics for reporting. Lead the development of metrics that drive forecasting capabilities and strategic insights.
  • Coordinate workload planning and goal setting across the Global Access team to ensure successful initiative tracking and outcomes.
  • Skilled negotiator with internal stakeholders with an unwavering commitment to a sense of purpose in the face of adversity.
  • Ensure that the Global Access team is working effectively with internal JDRF stakeholders and departments.
  • Experience effectively working through ambiguity.
  • Transparent in all his/her affairs and models JDRF's values for others to emulate, fostering a culture and environment in which diverse personalities will thrive.
  • Excellent communicator with the diplomacy and tact to make decisions which will benefit all stakeholders with competing standpoints
  • Contract negotiations, service agreements, strategy, and corresponding budget needs. Identifying barriers to adoption and effecting risk mitigation strategies to position JDRF to maximize return on investments of operational systems.
  • Ensure JDRF's interests are integrated into contractual negotiations. Engage counsel appropriately on specific terms that deviate from standard provisions. Negotiate IP and other terms as necessary.
  • Perform a detailed review and analysis of the Global Department's operations and grant budget forecast on a monthly and quarterly basis and present to VP, Global Access. Provide the JDRF Finance team with the routine updates and elevate concerns pertaining to annual department spend, as needed.
  • Provide strong pre-award and post-award grants management. Ensure real-time tracking of leveraged funding statistics, partnered funds cash flow, and other grant related metrics as needed.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for urgent business issues, initiatives managed by the VP, and additional ad hoc requests.
  • Act as an advisor to the VP, Global Access on both strategic and tactical matters to determine and prioritize decisions, manage time, reviewing and prepare materials, and brainstorm strategic objectives.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Operate with great latitude for independent judgment and initiative. Lead discussions, provide input and make suggestions to improve business processes.
  • Proactively engage in problem solving with various programmatic and functional teams for smooth functioning of the organization.
  • Achieve success by employing logical, systematic thinking managing multiple priorities in a highly dynamic environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to produce high-quality deliverables and develop clear messages on complex issues
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong familiarity with financial systems, budgeting, compliance, accounting best practices, expense recording, and reporting.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and remote team
  • Ability to be effective, calm, and flexible in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and effectively prioritize
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders from varied professional and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong project management, leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 8-10 years of non-profit experience
  • Master of Science, MBA or MPA with 7-10 years of non-for-profit experience

Target Salary: $120-160k

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
