Caterpillar's IPSD Engine Performance Development Team in Mossville, IL is looking for a person to serve as an Engineering Specialist-Dev/Res in the Power Systems Lab at Tech Center L. This person will support Natural Gas, Hydrogen, and Diesel Engines. As an Engineering Specialist, you will act as an SME for engine performance development, responsible for supporting the Development team by providing guidance on standard work, troubleshooting test data, making technical decisions on data quality, and overall guiding the team through test issues. This person will be responsible for escalating issues when necessary, effectively communicating technical issues to managers and support teams, and overseeing development engineers data quality, rating reviews, email communication etc. A successful person in this role will have a deep understanding of Gas engine development and some understanding of IPSD Engine Performance Development operating procedures, 8- 10 years of experience in engine performance, excellent communication skills, and ability to lead meetings and mentor other development engineers.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as subject matter expert for Hydrogen, Natural Gas, and Diesel engine performance team
  • Driving resolution to complicated engine performance issues with Gas and Diesel Engines
  • Improving/Developing standard work for engine performance,
  • Providing training to the team on new operating procedures
  • Support team members with guidance on test execution best practices
  • Working with SW team to map out SW changes test files for field testing
  • Supporting Built in Quality (BIQ) efforts to reduce inefficiency in design and test lab processes
  • Contributing to multiple New Product Introduction (NPI) rating development projects, New Technology Integration (NTI) projects, and emissions certification projects
Additional Information:
  • This position will be located in the Technical Center Building L in Mossville, IL. Relocation IS available for this position.

What You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accredited Engineering field (i.e. Mechanical, Chemical, Aero, Ag)
  • 8-10 years of experience in Gas/Diesel Engine Performance/Development
  • Analytical Thinking Skills: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking Skills: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Product Testing Skills: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Experience with C13D Advanced Controls Rating Development
  • Experience with Cat Layer, Global Alignment Tools, and Python
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering field (i.e. Mechanical, Chemical, Aero, Ag)
  • Passion for working in a highly visible position collaborating with many cross functional teams and managers
