Job Summary

The Data Science Manager will be responsible for leading and managing a team of data scientists and analysts to extract valuable insights from complex data sets. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, setting strategic data-driven goals, and ensuring the successful execution of data projects to support business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

You are responsible for (but not limited to)

Leadership- 45% of the time includes the following activities:

• Manage and mentor a team of data scientists, analysts, and possibly other related roles, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data science lifecycle, and establish best practices for data handling.

Project Advisement - 15% of the time includes the following activities:

• Oversee end-to-end data science projects, including problem definition, data collection, analysis, modeling, interpretation of results, and presentation of findings.
• Translate complex analytical results into clear and actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders through presentations, reports, and visualizations.

Strategic Planning - 15% of the time includes the following activities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize key business questions and opportunities that can be addressed through data analysis.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, business analysts, product managers, and executives, to align data science initiatives with overall business goals.

Data Modeling and Prep - 25% of the time includes the following activities:

• Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in data science, machine learning, and analytics, and apply this knowledge to improve team capabilities.
• Utilize advanced analytics techniques to extract actionable insights from large and complex data sets, employing tools and technologies such as Python, R, SQL, and machine learning frameworks.
• Lead the development and deployment of predictive and prescriptive models to support decision-making and enhance business processes.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: A master's or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. A strong background in mathematics and statistics is essential.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, experience with data manipulation and visualization libraries, knowledge of machine learning techniques, and familiarity with databases and data storage solutions. Experience with a data science platform.
• Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team of data scientists, analysts, or similar roles, with strong communication, mentoring, and coaching skills.
• Business Acumen: Understanding of business operations, goals, and processes, with the ability to translate data insights into actionable business strategies.
• Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to tackle complex data-related challenges.
• Project Advising: Experience in project management, including scoping, resource allocation, and time management.
• Interpersonal Skills: Effective collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and communicate with diverse teams.
• Ethical Considerations: A commitment to ethical data practices and privacy regulations, ensuring compliance and responsible data usage.
• Ensure cybersecurity best practices are being followed within the Data Science disciplines.

Optional but preferred:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with AI software such as Dataiku, Altair, H20.Ai, Hibiscus.Ai is a plus.
