The Coordinator for Student Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Programming is a vital role in the Mission Values and Inclusion. Under the leadership of the Executive Director for Student Equity and Inclusion this role is primarily responsible for the leadership and coordination of student diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives focusing on community, advocacy, retention and empowerment of students from underrepresented backgrounds at Edgewood College. Due to the collaborative nature of this work, the Associate Director of Student Life serves as a functional supervisor to the Coordinator for Student Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Programming.

The purpose of the Coordinator for Student Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Programming position is to work in partnership with members of the Mission, Values and Inclusion staff, as well as with members of the Student Development staff and Student Success to coordinate and promote a diverse variety of campus events and student leadership opportunities to promote student learning, growth and development outside of the classroom. The Coordinator for Student Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Programming assists in developing, promoting, and assessing current and new activities and programs designed to create a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable learning and working environment at Edgewood College and in the greater community.

The newly created Mission, Values and Inclusion division at Edgewood College actively models and integrates the College's Dominican Catholic identity, heritage and values, and their integration with college-wide efforts of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This member of the division will play an integral part in advancing our mission in the lives of our students, and how it impacts our faculty, staff, and greater community.

Additional job functions will include constituency-based support, advocacy, and outreach to underrepresented students, faculty and staff, within the initiatives and programs led by the Mission, Values, and Inclusion team.

This is a 12-month position; evening and weekend hours are required, depending on programs and events.

Responsibilities:

DEI Initiatives

  • In collaboration with MVI (Mission, Values, and Inclusion) staff and Student Development staff, oversee, and partner with cross-campus committees to plan heritage month initiatives for: First Generation Celebration Week, Latinx Heritage Month, Pride Week, Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women's Heritage Month, and APIDA Heritage month. Foster cross-departmental communication across the College to create official Heritage Month calendars that encompass events/program from across the campus. Collaborate and support initiatives that increase access and equity to the college for BIPOC students, first generation college students, and other underserved populations. Partner with Admissions Office to offer informational sessions to prospective students regarding Mission, Values and Inclusion programming Support Orientation as a member of MVI through facilitating diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings and conversations around identity development for different student groups.

DEI Leadership Education and Development

  • Facilitate orientation programming around transition to college, academic skills (such as time management, academic planning, career development), at the direction of the Executive Director for Student Equity and Inclusion. In partnership with Executive Director for Student Equity and Inclusion and Academic Success Coordinator, assist in small group settings to provide tutoring and guidance in academic skills and performance (test-taking, reading comprehension, writing skills, and other related skills). In coordination with the Executive Director for Student Equity and Inclusion, coordinate outreach efforts based on Jenzabar reports (i.e., midterm grades, incompletes, etc.) to historically underserved students.

Student Leadership Development

  • In coordination with the Executive Director for Student Equity and Inclusion, assist in the mentoring and advocacy of historically underserved students. In particular, the Coordinator for DEI Initiatives will coordinate programming around Community Scholars, Bonners, Boys and Girls AVID/TOPS graduates, and other students from historically underserved leadership programs This is a community approach to our student leadership development, alongside the rest of the MVI team's efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

Student Advocacy and Support

  • Actively build relationships/mentorships with students, including spending time in the Multicultural Student Center, the Queer Student Center, the Multifaith and Meditation Prayer Room, the Space for Cultural Liberation in the St. Joseph Chapel, and various student spaces, as well as attending student events. Support student academic success and retention. Support student wellbeing through referrals to financial and academic resources.

Administrative

  • Attend all MVI Team meetings and retreats. Assist in the implementation of strategic initiatives of MVI: examples may include the Mass of the Holy Spirit, First-Year Retreat, Interfaith Site Visits, Community Service opportunities, and alternative Spring Break. Complete End of Year Report focusing on student organizations and campus heritage programming.

Institutional Mission

  • Serve as a member of college committees, as needed. Participate in Commencement; College Assemblies; Admissions functions; Mission, Values and Inclusion initiatives; and other College activities, as needed. Actively support the Mission of Edgewood College and the Division of Mission, Values & Inclusion

JOB QUALIFICATIONS Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Master's degree preferred, bachelor's degree required, and related combination of experience in student affairs, higher education, counseling, inclusive education, or other related fields focused on college student development Experience planning and facilitating large-scale programming Two years of professional experience, graduate work included, in college multicultural offices or related field Demonstrated experience working with underrepresented students, specifically students of color, first generation, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a high level of multicultural competence; the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways Demonstrate competency skills in the areas of student leadership including event planning, diversity and inclusion, leadership development, orientation, and student development theory Strong organizational ability, interpersonal skills, and high aptitude in oral and written communications Supervision of student staff and/or advising of student leaders Ability to work within a dynamic environment and a proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities Proactive and creative approach to problem solving and experience providing crisis intervention and referrals to appropriate campus and community resources Ability to gather, track and interpret data as it relates to programming and events to better assess the impact on students served and make recommendations for improvement Familiarity with and ability to uphold FERPA regulations when working with students and confidential records
