JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Program Director, the Coordinator for Competitive Sports is responsible for the daily administrative, operational and programmatic support of the Competitive Sports Unit. The position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center and associated competitive teams. Weekend and evening work is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel Management
Provide supervisory support to student employees in the performance of their daily responsibilitiesPromote and maintain high-quality performance standards for competitive sports student personnelImplement ongoing student employee training and development programsEvaluate student employee performance, providing written evaluations on an annual basisMaintain employee scheduling, monitor for accuracy, and provide payroll verificationCollaborate with Recreation Human Resources during Centralized Student Employee recruitment, hiring, recognition, and retention processesProgram Management Serve as Competitive Sports Site Manager ensuring program policy, maintenance, safety, and customer service needs are metAssume administrative and management leadership of assigned Leagues and TournamentsProvide ongoing advisement to assigned Club Sport TeamsProvide logistical support for programmatic units with the delivery of member servicesCoordinate competition site and equipment maintenance with internal and external constituentsImplement risk management policy and procedure for all activitiesProvide timely and accurate incident, accident, risk management, and maintenance reportingMaintain accurate and accessible records related to all Competitive Sports activities including participation and financial reportingMaintain accurate inventory of all programmatic equipment and operational resourcesProvide direct support of events hosted by UConn RecreationAssist with planning, development, promotion, and execution of a comprehensive ongoing schedule of competitive sports programmingDevelop and expand professional knowledge of competitive sports programming in order to ensure quality and provide a wide range of activities that meet the needs of studentsDrive department vehicles in support of satellite operations including competition site supervision, facility and field maintenance, and scheduled special eventsPlanning & AssessmentProvide timely and accurate reporting of Competitive Sports participant usage and financial dataRecommend operational and programmatic changes based on continuing need assessmentAssist in the development of the annual operating budget and the end of year reportRecommend annual program, equipment, facility, maintenance, policy, and budgetary needsAdditional DutiesProvide leadership for assigned departmental programs and eventsInstruct CPR/First Aid/AED classesServe on department or university assigned work teams and committeesServe as Student Recreation Center Manager on Duty as requiredAdditional duties as requested by supervisor or departmental leadershipMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience
- Demonstrated organizational skills necessary to independently manage multiple projects
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information
- Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to and/or experience working with diverse populations
- Current Adult CPR/AED Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster's degreeDocumented professional experience in competitive sports managementDirect experience working in student or customer serviceDemonstrated experience facilitating employee development and trainingDemonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of competitive sports managementOne (1) or more officiating certifications related to applicable competitive sportsProficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g. Fusion, Connect2Concepts, Sub-it-Up)First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor CertificationAPPOINTMENT TERMSThis is a full-time, 12-month, UCPEA position with outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.
