The Integrated Brain Health Clinical and Research Program (IBHCRP) in the Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a Research Coordinator, working under the direction of Dr. Ana-Maria Vranceanu (https://www.integratedbrainhealth.org/team). IBHCRP conducts federally funded clinical research with individuals on the continuum from health to illness, with the goal of improving brain health (cognitive, emotional and physical function). Interventions are primarily mind-body (e.g., mindfulness) but include cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy components. Current studies include: 1) a virtual randomized controlled trial aimed at improving quality of life in geographically diverse adults with neurofibromatosis; 2) a virtual randomized controlled trial aimed at improving quality of life in geographically diverse adolescents (12-17) with neurofibromatosis; 3) a virtual clinical trial aimed at improving physical activity and function in older adults with chronic pain and mild cognitive impairment; 4) a qualitative interview learning more about patients with young onset dementia and their care-partner to adapt an intervention tailored to meet this populations needs; 5) development of a mind body program to reduce cartilage breakdown and knee pain in obese osteoarthritis patients with co-morbid depression; and 6) a multi-site feasibility study of a mind-body program aimed to reduce distress in patients following orthopedic surgery.

Our program includes clinical psychologists, postdoctoral fellows, clinical psychology fellows/interns, research assistants, undergraduate and graduate volunteers and a program manager. We collaborate closely with several medical practices including the Pain Clinic, Neuro-ICU, Neurofibromatosis Clinic, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, Orthopedic Surgery and many more. We are a hard-working, fun, collaborative and supportive group seeking to identify highly motivated and dedicated team players who are curious, interested in multidisciplinary approaches, and passionate about improving quality of life in medical patients and their families.

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to assist with clinical research projects, as well as perform a variety of research tasks that support the day-to-day research operations. Responsibilities will include: conducting literature searches, drafting and managing IRB-related documents, participating in data management and data analysis tasks, helping with grant submissions, assisting with peer-reviewed journal submissions, developing materials for conference presentations, recruiting patients, assisting with the conduct of qualitative interviews/focus groups, and supervising undergraduate intern volunteers. Candidates must have a BA/BS or MA/MS, excellent interpersonal skills, good quantitative skills, an ability to work well in a collaborative environment, English proficiency, and strong writing skills. The ideal candidate must be comfortable interacting with medical patients and medical providers within and beyond MGH. Candidates will gain valuable experience and knowledge working in all phases of the research process, ranging from study design to analysis and interpretation of results. Opportunities to co-author manuscripts and present study results at conferences will be available. This position is ideal for someone wishing to pursue graduate study in the fields of clinical psychology or medicine.

The Clinical Research Coordinator may perform the following duties:

  • Recruit participants for research studies and clinical trials
  • Maintains records and databases (self-report, actigraph, fitbit, walk-test).
  • Collects & organizes patient data
  • Uses software programs to generate graphs and reports
  • Obtains patient study data from medical records, physicians, etc.
  • Conducts library searches
  • Verifies accuracy of study forms
  • Updates study forms per protocol
  • Documents patient visits and procedures
  • Assists with regulatory binders and QA/QC procedures
  • Assists with interviewing study subjects
  • Administers and scores questionnaires
  • Provides basic explanation of study and in some cases obtains informed consent from subjects
  • Performs study procedures, which may include phlebotomy.
  • Assists with study regulatory submissions
  • Writes consent forms
  • Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Performs administrative support duties as required

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Prior research experience and patient contact preferred
