The University of Iowa Department of Radiology has a leadership opportunity for Clinical Chief in the Diagnostic Division of Radiology. Candidate will provide supervision of 2nd and 3rd shift services in Diagnostic Radiology. Candidate will provide clinical and managerial leadership for Adult radiology services, including supervision for 2nd and 3rd shift services of operational activities, technical staff, support staff and students of designated areas. Assure that all staff provide safe clinical care and have the education, methods and resources to accomplish their performance objectives

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Human Resources Management:

  • Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff in a departmental unit or functional division.
  • Provides supervision to designated technical and support staff to include assignment of work schedule, work area and shift assignments.
  • Inform staff concerning changes in University, hospital, department and area policies and procedures.
  • Schedule classes and other education programs to assure compliance with hospital requirements
Financial Management:
  • Prepare budget or assist in development; provide projections and recommendations.
  • Manage financial data and monitor budget to meet goals.
  • Resolve budget discrepancies.
Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction:
  • Identify trends and determine QA priorities.
  • Develop quality standards.
  • Allocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectation.
  • Develop, implement and monitor plan to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Acquires and maintains accreditations for specialty unit and participates in departmental and hospital accreditation processes.
  • Oversee PACS operation for specialty area to ensure seamless integration with workflow of area, troubleshoot malfunctions and educate staff on system operation.
  • Monitors radiation safety activities of clinical specialty unit to monitor and limit radiation exposure of staff and patients according to federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains current written procedure manuals that are specific to specialty area and are consistent with departmental, hospital and university policies.
  • Performs all Radiology imaging studies of the specialty unit, including complex procedures and equipment and provides optimum quality images.
  • Analyzes malfunctions and refers problems to Radiologic Engineering staff or others as appropriate.
Patient Care/Services Delivery:
  • Identify needs, trends, and forecasts in order to provide quality patient care.
  • Promptly investigates and resolves problems concerning patient testing and procedures.
Planning and Goal Management:
  • Develop action plans for unit that meet strategic goals; provide progress reports to department director or director of clinical functions.
  • Consult with radiologists and other professionals to develop and implement new procedures and techniques.
  • Recommend equipment, supplies and other modifications for safe, effective and efficient operation.
Communication/Collaboration:
  • Advocate for needs of unit with healthcare leaders; may collaborate with medical director of unit regarding program development, process improvements, and equipment budgets.
Education Programs:
  • Provide clinical education to develop staff competency.
  • Oversee clinical education activities and agreements with other educational institutions.
  • Instructs Radiologic Technology students in all aspects of radiologic technology related to designated specialty area.
Diversity:

Education Required:
  • A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of experience in supervisory or leadership role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students is required.
Certifications:
  • Certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiology Technologies is required
  • Permit to practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated positive Services Excellence Skills is highly desirable.
  • Experience with planning and administering a budget.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to coach and mentor employees.
  • Recent experience in a Level 1 trauma center in general diagnostic radiology.
