Sanzaru Games is looking for a talented and team-oriented Cinematic Designer with a focus on narrative design. This unique role is responsible for the implementation of immersive storytelling sequences that provide lasting engagement.In this role, the designer will work closely with many disciplines (especially animators, tools engineers, and level designers) to ensure the storytelling experience throughout the game is of the highest quality. The ideal candidate understands the logistical and technical challenges of bringing interactive stories to life and has the skills to make it all happen.

Cinematic Designer - Sanzaru Responsibilities:

  • Drive the development of core narrative content and systems from script to shipping product.
  • Work closely with the Creative Director to define interactive dialogue events and conditions based on player progress.
  • Collaborate with the Animation team to assemble and iterate on cinematics and to construct interactive branching dialogue sequences.
  • Design and build effective testing strategies for complex narrative systems for both QA and internal team play-testing.
  • Evaluate workflows, tools, and features needed to improve game narrative systems in collaboration with the Engineering team.
  • Maintain documentation for all owned content and features.
  • Provide regular status updates at team meetings to ensure that relevant parties are always involved and informed.
  • Regularly play-test and provide constructive feedback, with a focus on storytelling, while also integrating feedback from others.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience multi-tasking and adapting easily to change, nimbly shifting focus as needed.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven experience identifying system design issues and creating solutions.
  • Experience working in a self-sufficient and self-motivated environment.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively.
  • Experience managing large and complex data sets (missions, lines of dialogue, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of C++, Blueprint, or other game scripting.
  • 2+ years of industry experience working in games, with meaningful contributions to the design and implementation of narrative systems and/or content (mission design and systems, level event scripting, branching dialogue, reputation systems, cinematics, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of hardware limitations and how to design around them.
  • 5+ years of industry experience working in games, with meaningful contributions to the design and implementation of narrative systems and/or content (mission design and systems, level event scripting, branching dialogue, reputation systems, cinematics, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of NPC AI and game logic systems.
  • Demonstrable interest in VR development and/or interactive storytelling.
  • Experience working in Unreal using Unreal Sequencer.
  • Proficient with node-based logic systems, like Unreal Blueprint.
  • Knowledge in other aspects of game development (programming, animation, etc.).
