Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), Behavioral Healthcare and Teacher Education.

In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and the Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. We also encourage applications from those with demonstrated experience and expertise in supporting, sustaining, and serving people from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, racial, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds.Working in the Natural Sciences Department, the Chemistry Assistant Professor is primarily responsible for teaching freshman- and sophomore- level STEM major transfer science courses in chemistry, in both lecture and laboratory settings. They are expected to develop and deliver educational materials and experiences designed to maximize success for the college's diverse student population. This position plays a key role in supporting the college's STEM educational pathways and will regularly work with colleagues, staff, and administrators across the campus. They may also engage the community through public events (like our annual Capstone Day) or student outreach.Courses at Centralia College are taught days and evenings in a variety of modalities-including fully in-person, hybrid, hyflex (virtual), and online. Duties and Responsibilities The Chemistry Assistant Professor will primarily be responsible for teaching the:
    General Chemistry main sequence Non-majors' general education chemistry course (can be themed based on candidate's area of interest - previous offerings included forensics and art)Organic Chemistry courses in alternate years
In addition, the successful candidate will:
    Display a passion and talent for teaching, mentoring, and engaging with a diverse student population in a community college setting.Advise students seeking healthcare and chemistry degrees within the Guided Pathways framework.Advance equitable student learning through effective and appropriate pedagogical practices, both in-person and online.Maintain effective communication with students using a variety of tools (e.g. in-person, online, and by phone).Teach and model appropriate, safe laboratory practices.Regularly engage in curriculum and program development and assessment.Participate in professional development activities related to teaching, chemistry, and other related areas.Attend and participate in faculty and committee meetings.Incorporate appropriate and engaging technology in their courses.Work collaboratively with colleagues across campus.Perform other duties as assigned and in accordance with the faculty negotiated agreement.
Qualifications
    Master of Science degree in Chemistry or related fieldTeaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
    PhD in Chemistry or related fieldTeaching experience at the college levelTeaching experience in an educational lab settingTeaching experience of 200-level organic chemistryExperience teaching effectively in multiple modalities (e.g. online, hybrid, in-person)Demonstrated ability to serve the needs of students who represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds
Conditions of Employment

This is a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment with employment expected to begin Fall Quarter 2024, subject to state legislative funding. The State of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for all state employees.

Centralia College faculty are represented by the Centralia College Federation of Teachers, Local No.4469, AFT/AAFL-CIO.

Compensation

Placement on the established faculty salary schedule is dependent upon education and teaching experience.The salary range for a 177-day contract is $67,204 - $100,775.
