Job Description

The Chassis Controller System Integration Engineer (CSIE) is a position within our Vehicle Motion Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization. VMEC is responsible for the development and deployment of embedded controller products specific to propulsion and chassis control systems! It is a product focused organization that develops and delivers complex hardware and software vehicle systems utilizing the principles of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

This position is specific to chassis electronics within VMEC andrequires an engineer with a solid experience base in electronic embedded controllers.

As a CSIE, you will be a member of a product development team that is focused on the delivery of an outsourced brake, steering, suspension, or driveline electronic control module or sensor for deployment to one or more of GM's future electric and/or ICE based vehicle platforms. You will be responsible for managing embedded controller system software development and integration. Key engagement will occur between the supplier-based software delivery team, supplier residents, product owners, and vehicle program management. You will have a high level of responsibility, and your performance will be measured on the quality and on-time deployment of your assigned chassis embedded controller or smart actuator.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver a fully integrated software and calibration package that is on-time and with quality to one or more vehicle programs under development.
  • Collaborate with Agile teams and component suppliers to continuously refine, prioritize, and deploy system features.
  • Create software feature growth chart that communicate key development and launch milestones with targeted feature delivery dates.
  • Lead the Controls Integration Team meeting with the controller system development partners. e.g. supplier, validation, and calibration.
  • Serve as champion for software problem resolution during the vehicle development process. Visualize, prioritize, and manage issue resolution efforts that are aligned with program team expectations.
  • Prepare, present, and defend component updates to the change authorization board (CAB) for software changes requested after the program freeze dates to address issues or requirements non-compliances due one or more of the following reasons: regulatory, safety, customer disatisfier, program requirement not met.
  • Tracking and reporting software readiness and delivery status to the product owner and program management as well as the leadership chain.

Additional Job Description

Primary Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Knowledge of and minimum2-5years of experience in controls system development. Including:
    • Control system integration and testing of hardware and software.
    • Controller hardware design and failure modes of electronic modules.
    • Vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications architectures.
    • System, software, and hardware requirements development and validation.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills
  • Experienced at planning, preparing for and leading meetings
  • Effective interpersonal skills that focus and influence others, including those which may have priority differences with yours.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a field of Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • 7-10 years of experience in vehicle chassis controls system development.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) training or certifications.
  • Experience in the GM component specification and release process.
  • Experience with customer interface technologies.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of OBD-II diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL).
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Global environment.
