This is a twelve-month position during which the scholar will work with the CBPP research team. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Renewal for a second year is dependent upon performance and securing additional funding. Scholars should expect to work on both independent and co-authored/group projects during their time at the University of Illinois.

The CBBP team's long-term research agenda includes studying how environmental conditions-such as temperature fluctuations, natural disasters, and wildfire smoke-affect the short- and long-term health and other outcomes of the affected populations. We are looking for a technically strong and highly motivated researcher who is excited about working with Medicare administrative data and researching topics at the intersection of environmental and health economics.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with CBPP faculty to conduct and publish high-quality research at the intersection of environmental and health economics.
  • Perform analysis using administrative Medicare data.
  • Assist CBPP faculty with supervising research assistants, grant-writing on collaborative projects, and occasional administrative/group tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related discipline by the start date of the position and demonstrate evidence of conducting research broadly aligned with the interests of the CBPP. Applicants should have strong empirical, writing, and communication skills and be comfortable working with large datasets.

APPOINTMENT STATUS: 100% time for a period of 12 months.

PROPOSED STARTING DATE: Proposed starting date is August 16, 2021.
