Job Responsibilities:

- Perform comprehensive and high-quality echocardiogram following MGH Echocardiography Lab protocol.

- Utilize a variety of techniques, such as 2DE, M-mode, Doppler, Agitated saline contrast, Ultrasound Enhancement Agents (UEA), 2D strain or 3DE, etc.

- Perform a variety of echocardiography exams, including Stress echocardiogram, Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) echocardiogram, CRT, Ramp study, etc.

- Obtain the necessary and accurate measurements and write preliminary report in a timely manner.

- Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information to ensure all appropriate imaging technique will be obtained.

- Apply independent judgment during the echocardiography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. As necessary, acquire additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimal diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.

- Be able to effectively handle emergency situations.

- Maintain all ultrasound equipment, trouble-shoot minor operating problems and report all malfunctions to appropriate service provider.

- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct echocardiography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.

- Assume responsibility for the safety of the patient during the echocardiography examination.

- Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.

- Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand.

- Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards with excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.

- Computer skills are essential and include but are not limited to, lab operating systems, database use, echocardiographic lab reporting software, image archiving and standard office management systems (email, word processing, etc.)

- Report to work on time, and prepared.

- Be able to work independently and be self-motivated.

- Be able to assist patient with limited mobility.

- Must be able to push a 200lb ultrasound equipment around department.

- Must be able to move small furniture, medical equipment (with proper permission of medical staff) when performing portable exams.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

- Current licensure as a registered cardiac sonographer

- Minimum of associate degree (or ultrasonography equivalent) with RDCS or CCI credential.

- Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Experience in echocardiography field preferred, but not required to be hired as a level I. Levels I & II require applicable years of experience.
