Hypertherm is seeking an Applications Engineer CAM to support the CAM Solutions business team to create, standardize, and maintain our software to match specific industrial cutting machines for all CAM Solution products globally.

Position Overview
As an Applications Engineer you will be part of a team providing high-quality setups to our customers to ensure that their cutting machines function as optimally as possible in conjunction with Hypertherm's CAM products. You will write post-processors to provide the interface between the CAM products and the cutting machines, build spreadsheets and databases of parameters to optimize the cutting for different materials and thicknesses, and develop software tools to improve our efficiency internally and for our customers. You will also have the opportunity to provide input into ongoing projects to enhance our CAM products.

Our CAM Solutions software helps global manufacturers increase material savings, boost productivity, lower operating costs, and improve part quality by offering the highest level of experience. Doing all this while cutting with plasma, laser, waterjet, and oxyfuel applications. With 50 years of experience and close to 500 global patents, Hypertherm dedicates more resources to industrial cutting research, development, and testing than any other manufacturer in the world. Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or another related field
  • Proficiency with C#
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Enjoy working with other people in engineering and non-engineering fields to understand customer needs
  • Understanding of object-oriented development
  • Sound understanding of software engineering principles, software configuration management tools and processes including defect/version tracking tools (e.g., Git, GitHub, and Fogbugz)
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a succinct and straightforward manner
  • Highly organized, self-motivated with the ability to work within a team environment of remote associates
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred experience that differentiates you:
  • Experience in cutting/sheet metal and/or pipe and tube cutting industry
  • Experience with nesting software, post processors, and CNC code
  • Experience extracting data from relational database engines
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative Scrum/Agile environment using Agile software development practices and resources (Bitbucket, Sourcetree, Jira, Git)
  • Knowledge of motion control and mechanical motion dynamics
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
