Overview

The Special Risk Business Analyst performs analysis, reporting, data modeling, cleaning, and validating of data for the various business and operations divisions of the organization with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions to facilitate effective business decisioning. Daily work includes partnering with various Account Management teams to define Reporting and Project requirements, data analytics and processes to support decision making, program performance and innovation. This work also includes creating the business reporting to illustrate the impact of a decision or its alternatives on organizational performance as measured by profitability and efficiency.

The Analyst is detail oriented and intellectually curious, with strong analytical and project management skills. The Analyst will have a core skill set in business intelligence and reporting (what do we need, where can we get it from, how can we verify data quality) and analysis (design and execution of Excel/ Power-pivot-based analyses that translate business insight needs into thoughtful analysis).

Responsibilities

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and develop on-going reports.
  • Prepare periodic reports and dashboards to support account management.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the Account Management team for the Major Accounts data and data processes.
  • Develop recommendations regarding data.
  • Ability to Analyze, Build and Test in an agile dynamic environment.
  • Perform analysis of complex data to support customer requests and management reporting.
  • Participates in production implementation, verification, and accountable for validating enhancements.
  • Responsible for determining test requirements based on project specifications.
  • Plan, document, evaluate and track testing results to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects.
  • Documenting core work related processes.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Champion and manage initiatives that will improve the quality of our data and/or data processes.
  • Support new projects and development of pricing and service solutions for team.
  • Heavy data mining using SQL, Excel, Access and PowerBI tools.
  • Do preliminary analysis to determine sources of discrepancies between actual and expected results.
  • Communicate and interact with appropriate areas on changes and enhancements that may impact data, workflow and functionality.
  • Provide support in testing/validating new changes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data warehouse.


Qualifications

Key Success Criteria and Competencies required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics or equivalent business experience.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Flexible team player who can work in a fast-paced environment where ambiguity exists, and priorities are subject to change.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with project team members and management.
  • Forward thinking mindset, looks for improvement or innovation opportunities across the business data landscape.

Required Qualifications:
  • 10 + years building customer reports in Excel.
  • 5 + years performing complex data analysis.
  • Strong SQL experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in Business Intelligence in the Insurance, Auditing, Underwriting beneficial.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence and Property & Casualty insurance preferred.
  • An open mindset, comfortable with embracing and coping (with) change.
  • Past Microsoft work experience is a plus.
