JOB BRIEF
The Cold Deli Manager in each store is responsible for the overall operation of the cold deli department. In that capacity, the Cold Deli Manager must supervise the employees of the department to ensure that the staff is well-trained and productive. The Cold Deli Manager is responsible for continuously evaluating the department to maximize its contribution to the store's overall success.

JOB DUTIES
- Review and analyze sales; compare with budget and previous sales; identify and record events that may have affected sales; check labor percent and adjust as needed. Make work assignments for employees, and follow-up to ensure completion.
- Establish, communicate, and post a sanitation schedule and ensure that all sanitation procedures are being performed each day.
- Review invoices of product received into the cold deli department and ensure proper receipt procedures were followed; ensure proper accounting, matching invoices against Purchase Log and making necessary corrections; follow established procedure for submitting invoices for timely payment.
- Review advertised sale items each week and ensure that department has product available and that pricing is correct; execute the quarterly department action plans as well as any additional plans received from Merchandising; develop and implement additional action plans or promotional events that will maximize sales and ensure that merchandising goals are achieved; prepare and implement department plans for effective space management, product allocation, and cross merchandising; ensure that product is properly rotated and that expired products are pulled from display; assess inventory needs based on movement, specials, promotions, and trends; determine amount of inventory needed to meet needs and ensure that supply orders are placed on time.
- Assign responsibility for ordering supplies and monitor to ensure proper levels and proper control; facilitate product transfers between departments or stores from time to time; responsible for department's readiness for inventory each quarter; direct and assign necessary duties to prepare for inventory.
- Review the condition of the department throughout the day ensuring that employees are dressed according to dress code or utilizing all personal protective and sanitation equipment; practicing customer service skills; that department's condition meets company standards and is being maintained at all times.
- Observe department areas for evidence of shrink, including spoilage, damage, poor inventory control, and theft; inform and coach employees as to procedures to reduce shrink; consult with management as needed to decrease shrinkage in the department; keep management informed of any unusual or unauthorized activity in and around the store.
- Interview candidates for department positions; assess and recommend candidates for hire; ensure that new employees complete orientation; issue equipment for the position and train on the use of equipment in the department (e.g. slicers); ensure each employee knows how to properly operate the equipment in the department before attempting to use; conduct a tour of the store with new employees to show them where fire extinguishers, emergency exits, first aid centers, sanitation supplies, and other safety equipment are located; communicate the importance of practicing safety every day.
- Monitor employees continuously to ensure that employees are making safety an important part of their work; ensure that efficiency procedures are being followed consistently; review and validate checklists against actual department conditions; discuss any deficiencies discovered and counsel employees if necessary following company guidelines for disciplinary action.
- Train employees on lock-out/tag-out procedures; ensure that equipment requiring maintenance is properly locked out for repair and that equipment is maintained and repaired promptly. Enforce policies regarding under-age and untrained employees and do not allow unauthorized employees to use dangerous equipment. Ensure that employees maintain proper certification for equipment use and food handling at all times.
- Prepare employee schedules each week based on projected sales, labor budget, and anticipated activity; monitor labor budget daily and adjust schedule as needed to ensure actual labor costs do not exceed budget at the end of the week and the end of the period.
- Enforce company policies and procedures in the cold deli department, including policies related to security and safety, company dress and grooming standards, and health standards. Ensure that all policies and procedures designed to protect the company's assets are followed at all times; communicate policies and expectations to employees; observe employee actions for compliance; take action as necessary to correct behavior.
- Investigate any personnel situations or policy violations that may have an adverse effect on department operating performance or any situations that may require disciplinary action; dispense and/or make recommendations as to appropriate disciplinary action according to company's disciplinary policies; consult with Store Manager when appropriate.
- Evaluate performance of staff periodically to recommend personnel actions of employees; observe employees' interactions with customers; communicate productivity and performance levels expected, and monitor work of each employee to ensure that expectations are being met; meet with employees in the cold deli department on a regular basis to communicate department or company news, remind them about certain policies, shrink in the department, special procedures and discuss other topics that will enhance their performance and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Work to develop and maintain a friendly atmosphere and good morale in the department by giving feedback and recognition to employees on a regular basis, by resolving disputes and/or issues between employees; and by addressing employees' questions and concerns.

Secondary Job Duties:
- Restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and to maintain the lowest supply cost.
- Clean utensils, work tables, wipe counter tops, and front of display cases.
- Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude.
- Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark downs or property defacement.
- Other duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prefer a minimum of High School diploma or GED equivalent, some college would be helpful.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Five plus years' Deli experience working in a retail grocery environment
- Proven leadership experience in a Deli department with direct reports.

- Continuously- Standing on tile/concrete, walking on tile/concrete, manual dexterity, talking, seeing, hearing and smelling.

Safety Risk Factors:
- Occasionally-Loud noise, slippery or cluttered floor surface, hazardous equipment, contact with sharp objects, contact with skin irritant, toxic exposure (see Material Safety Data Sheets), and nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, and hazardous cleaning solutions.
- Frequently-Twisting of back and neck.

- Varied, irregular schedules.
- Working environment involves inside store environment with potential exposure to cold conditions.
