Required:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in the construction and maintenance fields. Knowledge of carpentry and painting.

Current driver's license and driving record acceptable to the University must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director

Preferred:

Journeyman level training or graduate from vocational school.

Established ability to assist experience carpenters and painters.

Primary Responsibilities:

Summary
Function: Semi-skilled work in the carpentry and painting professions.
Scope: Construction and maintenance of University facilities and projects.

Duties
Essential: Assist and perform as directed various building maintenance duties. Assist carpenters and painters as directed. Work shall meet or exceed the standards of the Building Maintenance Department.

Employee shall practice safe work habits, proper safety procedures, and use personal protective devices; must also actively participate in safety training programs. Other duties as assigned. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Supervision
Received: From Carpenter Foreman or immediate supervisor.

Position is Security Sensitive.

Other Information:

Working Conditions
Usual: University wide property; position is Security Sensitive. After hours on-call availability required.
Periodic: Manual labor and lifting of heavy objects, outdoors during weather conditions.


Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas.
