The Duchossois Family Institute (DFI) at the University of Chicago seeks a Biomanufacturing Inventory Control Specialist for our current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) facility. This facility will be a first of its kind, state-of-the art, adaptable microbiome manufacturing center embedded at the interface of a world-class microbiome sciences research team and patient-centric medical center aimed at translating innovation at the bench to investigations in the clinic. Our objective is to embed a biotech, product development focused capability within an advanced academic research environment, all towards driving value for patients in addressing unmet medical needs in record time. The DFI's goal is to optimize or augment microbiome functions that enhance disease resistance. The Biomanufacturing Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for planning and managing daily inventory operations for the DFI cGMP Facility. This individual is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels for all raw material and consumables that will be used for product manufacturing within the DFI cGMP Facility. This individual will ensure all supplies and materials are ordered and optimal inventory is present and ready for use.

Responsibilities

  • Create part specifications for new inventory items and formally release them into Grand Avenue Software prior to placing orders.
  • Request quotes from vendors, suppliers, and distributors, prepare Purchase Orders (POs) and place orders.
  • Ensure adequate Inventory levels are present and ready for use.
  • Identify long lead components and place orders well in advance to avoid supply chain issues.
  • Identify and optimize common inventory items and patterns.
  • Identify second source suppliers for critical items and raw materials.
  • Perform monthly cycle counts, prepare reports, and maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Assist in the monitoring of various financial and budgetary activities and help with cost reduction projects.
  • Receive material, assign DFI Lot numbers, and enter inventory into Fishbowl Inventory System for traceability and inventory management purposes.
  • Create Lot History Record for incoming material and stage material for Incoming inspection and quality control check.
  • Process vendor returns and prepare material for shipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of workplace safety and product quality.
  • Meeting all training requirements for applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and report non-conforming events in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all existing DFI's policies and procedures.
  • Develop good working relationships with vendors.
  • Evaluate each vendor and create supplier scorecards.
  • Help with scrapping obsolete material as needed.
  • Assists with inventory cycle counts and control activities as directed. Responsibilities consist of reporting inventory issues, assisting others in the transport of stock, and maintaining certain security and maintenance activities.
  • Routinely meets with and samples inventory counts to support visiting auditors.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Associate's Degree in business management or in related field is strongly preferred.

Experience:
  • Experience in a cGMP cleanroom environment.
  • Previous hands-on inventory control experience in biopharmaceutical development or manufacturing setting, either academic or industry, is highly desired.
  • Previous experience using Inventory Management Software and tools and the ability to follow protocols to maintain compliance with FDA regularity requirements.

  • Proven ability to multitask, manage time and workload.
  • Must have detail-oriented skill level.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds when processing incoming material goods.
