As the Systems Engineering Lead for Energy Storage Products, you will manage a global team in the development of battery systems for products in the Agricultural and Construction Industries. You will help build and lead a team of engineers covering the core competencies of electrical system architecture and the interfaces required for full integration to vehicle systems. The right candidate will be responsible for the development of all battery pack system requirements from concept initiation to production launch.


Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a team of engineers responsible for all performance aspects of energy storage systems
  • Lead the development of system architecture and mechanization definition in support of vehicle traction, charging, interfaces and accessories
  • Provide direction for battery component selection, including cells and modules and conduct trade-off analysis for system performance
  • Provide direction for data collection in support of the requirements definition process.
  • Coordinate the creation and use of modeling strategies and analysis tools
  • Work closely with the pack design manager and propulsion system team to provide performance input for trade studies
  • Create and manage battery sub-system technical specifications and ensure the battery performance and safety meets vehicle technical specifications
  • Direct the development of system DFMEA's and coordinate supplier component DFMEA's
  • Create analysis, development and validation plans that support fast to market and first-time quality
  • Interface with Purchasing and Suppliers during the sourcing and development process
  • Work closely with lead engineers and cross functional team members and engineering service teams (vehicle, modeling and simulation, software, and functional safety)
  • Communicate development progress to leadership, identify project risk and propose mitigation strategies
  • Prepare for and participate in formal and informal design/peer review activities
  • Coordinate battery system activities between global locations
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies for energy storage requirements, components and strategies
  • Provide direction/mentorship to team members and conduct semi-annual performance reviews
  • Position pays from $150,000-$190,000 (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or relevant degree
  • 8 plus years of experience in the electric vehicle industry
  • Demonstrated leadership in the development of system architectures for HV energy storage systems
  • Experience with MatLab and Simulink tools
  • Experience with requirements management and tools
  • Deep knowledge of battery cell chemistry and selection based on vehicle power and energy needs
  • Understanding of various battery pack components (modules, BMS, busbars, fuses, wiring, connectors, control modules, cold plates, cooling hoses)
  • Understanding elements required for battery pack to vehicle integration (vehicle location, mechanical and electrical interfaces, crash/crush strategies)
  • Skilled in requirements definition that meet high voltage safety standards for electric vehicle applications
  • Strong background in requirements translation from vehicle to sub-system
  • Knowledge of automotive certification standards (UN, UL, SAE, ISO, FMVSS)
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills in English
  • Deep experience with cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proactive behaviors
  • Ability to set clear objectives and deliverables, hold others accountable and influence others, regardless of position power or organization boundaries
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to extract and understand the big picture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Agriculture and Construction domain knowledge and experience
  • Engineering Master's degree
  • Experience with vehicle level performance and testing for efficiency/life analysis
  • Experience with eDrive (motor and inverter) performance, calibration and testing
  • Background in simulation
  • Background in SIL and HIL use
  • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Experience using both stage gate and Agile product development processes
