The Primary E&S Casualty - Western Region, Everest Insurance, a member of the Everest Re Group, Ltd. is looking for an Assistant Vice President to join the Western Region team.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Managing and underwriting a national book of complex Auto and General Liability accounts ranging from OIP, Severity Driven Products, Hospitality, and Real Estate amongst others.
  • Deep collaboration with Actuary, Claims, Corporate Underwriting, Legal, Product Management, and Sales & Distribution, on new and renewal business strategy.
  • Participation in leadership, regional, and local team meetings.
  • Visibility with National Wholesalers and ability to speak intellectually about the products being underwritten.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert and transferring knowledge of the above to less experienced colleagues.
  • Underwrite renewal accounts to renewal retention and department standards
  • Adhering to underwriting guidelines and referral processes
  • Utilize underwriting tools and resources to evaluate risks on new business prospects, makes decisions to quote or decline to quote, and develop premiums in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
  • Maintain detailed underwriting files, worksheets and documentation supporting the underwriting decision and pricing thought process.
  • Manages new business to balance profitability and growth.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with brokers to support production and marketing goals
  • Understand market and industry trends, loss development, and proper risk classification
  • Assist management with training, mentoring and development of other underwriters on the team

Qualifications, Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or a related field.
  • CPCU, CRIS, ARM or other insurance certifications are a plus
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Primary Casualty Underwriter with a focus on the General Liability line.
  • Knowledge of the Automobile line is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Existing wholesale broker relationships in the region desirable
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building, employee coaching, and development skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Deep technical knowledge of multiple industry segments including; construction, manufacturing, hospitality, and habitational.
  • A notable external profile that includes varied and deep relationships with National and Specialized Wholesalers in throughout the Country.
  • Collaborative spirit and approach.
  • Willingness to mentor and spearhead knowledge transfer with interns, associate underwriters, underwriting assistants, and junior underwriters.

FOR CALIFORNIA ONLY: The base salary range for this position is $160,000-$210,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
