Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Automation Engineer is two-fold. First, to be a great Nucor team member who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. Second, is to ensure the success of the team by SAFELY performing programming and upgrade tasks on insulated metal panel equipment and systems, as well as proposing and implementing innovative solutions to challenges in the panel making process and business.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

The ideal candidate will program PLC and HMI software within the company as assigned, work to ensure assignments are completed within budget, on schedule and communicate effectively with team members on project status and needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 8-10 years of experience as a maintenance electronics and PLC controls technician within a manufacturing/operations environment. Would consider other relevant experience and educational backgrounds.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting HMI's.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's in ladder logic.
• Ability to read and interpret PLC wiring diagrams, Control Narratives and P&ID Drawings.
• Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, off shifts and scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
• Willingness to travel for extended periods during project implementations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industrial process automation networking experience (i.e. Ethernet IP, Profinet, Profibus, etc.)
• Ability to program in multiple languages, including ladder logic, Structured Text and VB scripting.
• Experience with Siemens SIMATIC TI, Rockwell FactoryTalk, and Aveva Wonderware software.
• Experience with SQL and other database related software.
• 2-year or 4-year degree in electrical engineering, industrial controls or related field.
