Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Identify SOTIF-relevant hazards
  • Define SOTIF safety goals and vehicle level safety requirements
  • Develop, adapt, and apply SOTIF analysis techniques to define:
    • System and subsystem control structures and identify unsafe control actions
    • Understand and characterizelimitations, such as technology maturity and operational environment, to identify scenarios that impact SOTIF and may trigger unsafe behaviors that can potentially lead to vehicle hazards
  • Execute risk management and study, measure, and communicate engineering tradeoffs (such as feature availability versus safety).
  • Manage safety requirements traceability and work with design, implementation, performance, validation, and service team members to validate SOTIF requirements
  • Research various sources (e.g. literature and vehicle studies) to help define qualitative and quantitative criteria for SOTIF
  • Work cross-functionally to define data collection strategies that satisfy qualitative and quantitative SOTIF criteria
    • Develop hypothesis and set up criteria, process to test the hypothesis
    • Statistical analysis through modeling, simulation, and vehicle level testing
  • Work cross functionally in a dynamic, agile development environment to identify and resolve issues that impact SOTIF
  • Support development of a SOTIF safety case that includes concept, design, validation and verification including qualitative and quantitative analysis, testing, and other measures

Skill Set and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with post-graduate education in engineering, controls and/or software preferred
  • 2 years of post graduation experience required; 5+ years of post graduation experience and execution of responsibilities related to System Safety, Systems Engineering, Validation and/or vehicle development, with experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Object Sensing technologies (camera, radar, lidar) and related limitations
    • Software design, analysis, development, validation
    • Vehicle Dynamics
    • Mapping and Localization
    • Machine learning and sensor rationalization schemes
    • Simulation methods and data acquisition / analysis techniques
  • Solid understanding and experience with active safety and/or automated driving features
  • Experience in and knowledge of SOTIF processes and techniques preferred (including ISO/PAS 21448)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of System Safety and Systems Engineering
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis
  • Ability to travel up to 20% required
