Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

JOB SUMMARY

The College of Undergraduate Studies seeks an Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVPAA) to lead the development and implementation of new programs and support faculty in advancing instructional outcomes and academic excellence. The AVPAA serving with administrative responsibilities will be a member of the SNU faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the VPAA, the Chief Academic Officer, the Academic Leadership Team, Department Chairs, and Academic staff to plan programs, shepherd new program proposals through institutional approval processes, and work to ensure Higher Learning Commission (HLC) approval and other relevant accreditation as needed.
  • Collaborate with the VPAA and Director of Assessment to foster a culture of continuous improvement through regular assessment and cyclical program review.
  • Work with department chairs and student support service personnel on persistence strategies to increase completion rates in each program.
  • Assist the VPAA in applying institutional policy in collaboration with department chairs, faculty, the Registrar's Office, and the Business Office.
  • Oversee the development of the Academic Course Schedule in collaboration with Department Chairs and Program Coordinators.
  • Work closely with the Director of Faculty Development to administer effective onboarding for new faculty and implement high-quality professional development activities that cultivate instructional excellence and supportive learning environments.
  • Assist with developing and tracking college budgets.
  • Teach one course each term (two courses per year) in one's area of disciplinary expertise.
  • Collaborate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs for Undergraduate Studies.
  • Serves as a deputy Title IX coordinator
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity and the ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading assessment, program improvement, and faculty development processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in course scheduling.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading through collaborative processes.
  • Conducts himself/herself at all times with high personal and professional integrity and ethical standards.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Exceptional persistence and self-motivated work ethic.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with a positive attitude, energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Effective leader, collaborator, and communicator with a proven ability to lead teams, solve problems, develop solutions, and inspire others to achieve their professional best.
  • Doctorate required
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in higher education academic administration (e.g., at the Dean level and above) or seven years of academic leadership at the program level (e.g., Program Director, Department Chair, etc.)
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague systems.
  • Experience in leading change processes based on analysis of internal and external benchmarking and datasets.

Supervision Received:

Receives supervision and work assignments from the Vice President of Academic Affairs for Undergraduate Studies (VPAA - CUGS), the designated supervisor. However, other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised:

May be responsible for coordinating work assignments for faculty and professional staff in the College of Undergraduate Studies.
