The Associate System Engineer participates in the maintenance, administration and optimization of CDW’s server and application infrastructure. This role applies technical knowledge and skills to provide a secure, fault tolerant, scalable and flexible server infrastructure for CDW’s operations.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Respond to and resolve support cases generated within CDW’s Remedy and ServiceNow support ticketing system
• Build, Install, and maintain server hardware and related software
• Coordinate and/or complete repairs of physical and virtual infrastructure
• Ensure proper software and firmware patch levels on servers using Microsoft SCCM, Red Hat Satellite, and HP OneView
• Remediate issues from servers reporting operating system error events and monitor servers for performance bottlenecks
• Assist in the management of Active Directory, Domain Name Resolution, Certificates, Distributed File System (DFS), File Services, IIS, and Windows Application server rolls within a virtual and physical architecture

Responsibilities

• Remediate reported issues and communicate effectively with the IT Service Desk and associated Business Partners
• Follow CDW’s policies, best practices and guidelines for the server infrastructure
• Install, update, and test new and existing application software versions and patch as required
• Work off hours and weekends as dictated by the business
• Assist in maintaining technical documentation for CDW’s server infrastructure
• Coordinate server implementations for application environments with CDW coworkers and vendors

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years IT systems related experience.

Other Required Qualifications

• Intermediate understanding of the appropriate server Operating System and physical hardware
• Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously and adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines
• Solid verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical certifications associated to the chosen professional track
  ITIL
• A+ or Network+
• MCSA or MCSE certifications
• Basic PowerShell scripting
• Basic Linux administration (Red Hat Preferred)
• Basic understanding of certificate management and PKI infrastructure
• Basic understanding of virtualization (VMware Preferred)

Wintel

• Assist in the management of Active Directory, Name Resolution, Distributed File System (DFS), File Servers, and Windows OS family.
• Install, support, and maintain servers and related software for all branch offices.
• Coordinate with vendors to troubleshoot and repair outages.
• Ensure proper patch levels on server hardware and software.
• Coordinate with business owners to complete server project requirements.
• Monitor servers for failures and performance problems.
• Maintain technical documentation for CDW’s server infrastructure.
• Participate in business continuity planning for infrastructure.
• Coordinate with IT Help Desk to communicate issue status and respond to questions.
• Required to participate in On-Call support rotation.
• Respond to and resolve support cases generated in CDW’s support ticketing system (Remedy/Service Now).
