This position supports the research and booking of capitalized expenses, rail equipment property tax, compliance, reporting and reconciliation activities for the Rail Financial Operations Team. This position also supports other areas of Financial Operations working with managers in each area to organize documentation and track performance.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze all payments related to railcar capitalized improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical department to fully understand all capital projects and supporting data.
  • Prepare monthly reporting and journal entries for railcar capitalized improvements.
  • Calculate and update depreciation for capitalized expenses in the lease accounting system.
  • Provide support to accounting and research open items on general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Assist with operating expense analysis and monthly reporting.
  • Additional ad hoc operating expense analysis projects.
  • Perform monthly transaction review to identify potential operational risk events.
  • Assist with railcar property taxes, data gathering, variance analysis and full support of a third-party vendor.
  • Audit support: data gathering and review for recurring-type items provided to auditors and regulators.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Understanding of GAAP and SOX internal controls, lease accounting, and capital additions and improvements
  • Analytical ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and to clearly communicate findings
  • Ability to prepare and maintain complex transactional financial analysis in Excel, including knowledge of pivot tables and advanced formulas (VLOOKUP, sum if, etc.)
  • Extraordinarily organized, able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced organization
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels in the organization
  • Team oriented and dependable
