Job Description Summary

The Associate Design Engineer supports the design functions used in developing and implementing capital projects. The Associate Design Engineer will be using industry-standard 2D and 3D CAD software and providing design direction to drafters. Work is accomplished through regular participation on a project team, coordinating with other designers and engineers. The ideal candidate will be able to run design software efficiently, have an eye for detail, and perform fundamental engineering calculations. The candidate will need to be able to develop creative solutions to challenges in equipment layout, construction, and equipment design standards. Safety, quality, sanitation, and reliability are key deliverables in all designs. Additional duties shall include oversight of field installation activities, training on typical systems utilized, training peers on standard design processes.

Job Description

  • Drives accountability for timely and accurate implementation of design-related work, directly or through the management of others.
  • Develop and maintain drawing standards.
  • Capable of performing and directing others to,
    • Generate 2D general layout drawings.
    • Generate P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation) drawings.
    • Generate 2D elevation drawings.
    • Generate 3D drawings.
  • Capable of uploading and navigating 3D Scans
  • Capable of supporting installation by auditing installation per construction sets.
  • Perform mass balance calculations to produce frozen potato products.
  • Calculate equipment size requirements for various potato processing and packaging systems.
  • Calculate pump and flume design requirements for various hydraulic pumping systems to include but not limited to pumping of water, oil, whole potatoes and cut potato products.
  • Leading design resource for internal technical engineers, project engineers/managers and external engineering consultants and equipment vendors.
  • Able to teach others to read and interpret 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Capable of managing design projects independently as well as managing contracted design firms.
  • Understand architectural, site, building, electrical, controls, networking, equipment, and potato process design.
  • Perform site inspections, evaluations, and analysis of processes and facility systems.
  • Drive and support the development and implementation of departmental initiatives.
  • Ensure all designs executed adhere to company specifications and standards.
  • Recognize, document, and promote best practices.
  • Ability to facilitate and direct work in group discussions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and ensure adherence to file naming and file structure standards.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering degree Required
  • CAD certificate desirable
  • Completion of Lamb Weston's Associate Engineering development program required. Candidates without this experience will be enrolled within the program.
  • 1-2 years' experience using CAD software.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk software suite. To include AutoCAD, Navisworks, Plant 3D, Inventor, and P&ID
  • Excellent computer and technical aptitude.
  • Able to pick up new skills at a fast past.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a design team.
  • Demonstrated time and task management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good computational and spatial ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft desktop applications such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time on average.

  • Sitting or standing for up to 12 hours a day (sometimes greater than 12 hours), frequently in a construction environment.
  • Lift up to 15 pounds occasionally (up to 25 pounds infrequently).
  • Walking on various manufacturing facility surfaces, frequently in a construction environment.
  • Climbing up ladders and stairs, frequently in a construction environment.
  • Accessing difficult to reach locations, frequently in a construction environment.
  • Exposed to plant and construction noises and vibrations.
  • Temperature changes from hot to cold depending on work area.
  • Ability to work and travel domestically and internationally for up to 4 weeks at a time (depending on phase of project).
  • Ability to safely operate a Company vehicle for up to 8 hours at a time.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate's work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $65,510.00 - $98,250.00
