Definition: Responsible for specific individual gift prospects for assigned divisions, departments and projects within the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Supervises and/or coordinates all fundraising activities for these areas, including support of assigned volunteer Councils and/or Boards. Responsibilities include strategies for outright gifts and planned gifts for prospective donors, including structuring and coordinating development staff, volunteer and physician interaction with prospects.
Develops an understanding of the educational, research, clinical, and financial needs and goals of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine, and clinical areas of responsibility within the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS).
Performs needs analysis for assigned physicians and/or Department Chair(s) to which this position is assigned on an on-going basis to establish development objectives.
Works as a member of the UPHS Development team and shares supervisory responsibilities of a Development Assistant.
Formulates and recommends major prospect strategies and timelines based on needs and goals of these faculty members.
Coordinates the participation of faculty, administration, trustees/volunteers, and other members of the development staff in achieving campaign goals.
Identifies, cultivates, and solicits individual major gift prospects in consultation with faculty and development staff.
Directs and prepares major prospect proposals and cultivation and solicitation informational materials for both individual and institutional prospects.
Plans, coordinates, and directs visits and special events for prospects and donors.
Oversees stewardship activities with assigned prospects.
Report regularly to the Executive Director of Development as well as other development colleagues on all fundraising activity through active implementation of the major gifts tracking/reporting/moves management system.
Collaborates with University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine leadership and development colleagues on all matters regarding assigned prospects.
Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in cultivating major gifts from individuals and organizations. Advanced degree desirable.
Knowledge or experience in planned giving is desired.
Ability to function independently, yet work in a centralized development structure.
Excellent computer and writing / communication skills essential.
Strong administrative experience and ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize a successful approach to achieving fund-raising goals.
