The Office of Institutional Research & Analysis is the central source for information about the University of Denver. We serve the University's vision, values, mission, and goals by analyzing and reporting institutional data to inform University and unit-level planning and development.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Institutional Research is a full-time, twelve-month staff position that leads institutional research and data management within the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis. This position supervises up to three research analysts and reports to the Assistant Provost for Institutional Research and Analysis.

The Associate Director ensures accurate, on-time reporting of institutional data to government agencies, accreditation bodies, ranking organizations, and higher education publications on behalf of the University. In particular, the position ensures compliance with mandatory institutional reporting requirements to the federal and state governments.

The Associate Director works closely with the Assistant Provost to support a culture of measurement, data literacy, and evidence-based decision making at the University. The position directs and oversees the design and development of information systems and tools that inform strategic and operational planning and meet the institutional research needs of executive leadership, senior staff, and administrative and academic units. The Associate Director leads and collaborates with data stewards, data users, and technology staff to implement plans, policies, and practices that maintain the consistency, accuracy, and utility of institutional data.

Essential Functions

  • Provides strong team management and effective supervision to coordinate the work of research analysts and develop their professional skills, capacity, and content expertise.
  • Ensures accurate, on-time reporting of institutional data to government agencies, accreditation bodies, ranking organizations, and higher education publications on behalf of the University, and ensures University compliance with mandatory institutional reporting as required by the Department of Education (IPEDS, Title II, Consumer Disclosures, EADA) and the Colorado Department of Higher Education (SURDS).
  • Directs and oversees the design and development of information systems and tools that support institutional research and inform strategic and operational planning across campus, such as databases, dashboards, reporting packages, visualizations, and self-service reports. Collaborates with data officers and technology staff to align data management practices with institutional research needs and maintain the consistency, accuracy, and utility of institutional data.
  • Designs, conducts, and oversees insightful institutional research to meet the needs of the University's executive leadership, senior staff, and academic and administrative units and communicates results through reports, presentations, and visualizations.
  • Establishes, revises, and disseminates definitions and methodology for reporting institutional data in compliance with federal and state guidelines and University policies and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in quantitative research methods, statistics, higher education, or related social science field.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with data and reporting.
  • Experience developing reporting, analytics, and data management solutions to support planning and institutional research.
  • Experience completing IPEDS surveys and the CDS.
  • Experience reporting institutional data to higher education publications, such as U.S. News, Petersons, and the Princeton Review.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in quantitative research methods, statistics, higher education, or related social science field.
  • Supervision experience, including overseeing, training, and developing full-time employees.
  • Experience in an institutional research office at a college, unit, or university.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 13.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $95,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
