Position Description:

The Ingram School of Engineering of Texas State University has launched a new Mechanical Engineering program that incorporates Industry 4.0 tools and technologies throughout the curriculum to prepare students who can design and develop mechanical and thermal systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructures. Currently, the program seeks to fill a tenure-track position in control systems and robotics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on qualifications, to begin Fall 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program in their areas of expertise, exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels, participate in curriculum and program development, and perform university and professional service. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.

Required Qualifications:

For the Assistant Professor rank:

  • An earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Academic and research background in control systems and robotics.
  • Research competence evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • A research agenda in control systems and robotics.
  • Record of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.

For the Associate Professor rank:
  • An earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Academic and research background in control systems and robotics.
  • Strong record of research publications related to control systems and robotics in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • Record of being PI or Co-PI of several funded research projects.
  • A minimum of seven years of teaching experience as a full-time mechanical engineering faculty member.
  • Documented experience as instructor of record teaching mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses in control systems and robotics.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the school. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.Preferred Qualifications:

For the Assistant Professor rank:

  • Expertise with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in academic environments with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge about ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants and contracts.

For the Associate Professor rank:
  • Expertise with Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
  • Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in academic environments with a diverse population.
  • Substantial knowledge about ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
  • Record of being PI of several funded research projects in control systems and robotics.
  • Record of academic and/or professional service leadership accomplishments.
