Assistant Operators are CDL holders that are responsible for the safe operation and care of Nordco Rail Services rail flaw detection vehicles. Assistant Operators will be evaluated based on performance metrics used by their field supervision as well as by the customer. The responsibility of Nordco Rail Flaw detection team is to understand the expectations of the customer and work to meet or exceed expectations with regards to Ultrasonic Testing of the Rail.

Nordco also serves industries that rely heavily on rail transportation, including port authorities, agriculture, mining, chemicals, and energy.

As an Assistant Operator with Nordco, you will have the unique opportunity to grow fast and shape the future of our company; all the while working with leaders in the manufacturing and railroad industry. Our Assistant Operator will be tasked with:

  • Remain well versed in and practice all railroad and highway safety and operating procedures.
  • Drive NRS rail flaw detection vehicles on road and on rail in support of rail flaw detection activities.
  • Takes direction from and assists Chief Operator during testing activities.
  • Under guidance of the Chief Operator, Field Manager and Equipment Manager, maintains the NRSIT rail flaw detection vehicle.
  • Ensures the vehicle has all required documentation including IFTA sticker, registration, and insurance etc.
  • Ensures the vehicle has current annual certifications for DOT and hy-rail FRA.
  • Partners with Chief Operator to maintain 5S
  • Maintains the vehicle's inventory by submitting monthly inventory reports and maintenance reports following specified guidelines.
  • Submit all required reports to Field Manager & Field Ops Manager monthly.
  • Maintains and submits accurate driver log, fuel reports and any other required documentation.
  • Records failure data when a component failure occurs. In addition, record possible reasons for failure whenever possible.
  • Inspects vehicle and carriage equipment regularly and brings findings to chief operator.
  • Grease, lube, and tighten bolts, repair or have repaired defective parts on ultrasonic testing carriage as necessary - any adjustments or repairs would be under supervision of Chief Operator.
  • Maintains accurate business expense records.
  • Must conduct themselves in a customer friendly & Professional manner at all times.
  • Other Job duties as assigned.
We are looking for Assistance Operator professionals with:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Associate Degree preferred.
  • NDT Ultrasonic Testing level 1 preferred.
  • Valid Class B (or Class A) CDL.
  • Continually meet NRSIT and DOT driving standards.
  • Mechanism analysis standard methods and computer simulation
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Travel

  • Extensive travel within the continental United States, but could also include Canada and Mexico. Passport will be required for travel outside the US.
