The Assistant Director for Student Organizations is an integral team member of the Student Engagement team within the Center for Student Involvement. The Assistant Director for Student Organizations will have primary oversight of 170+ registered student organization (170+), serves as the primary advisor to the Student Organization Budget Allocation Committee (SOBAC), and is the primary contact for the student organization management software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Organization Advising and Programming:

  • Provides leadership to approximately 170+ student organizations regarding effective management of organizations and their activities, which includes advising organizations on the University recognition process, budget procedures, and compliance with University policies and operations
  • Partners with staff within Fraternity and Sorority Life, University Recreation (Sports Clubs), and the Chaplaincy (religious organizations) to maintain a comprehensive registered student organization program
  • Provides development and implementation of the University's student organization management software, including technological expertise and training of students and staff
  • Contributes to the planning, development, implementation and assessment of student organization leadership training
  • Co-leads the Student Development Committee, a committee comprised of faculty, staff and students, whose responsibility is recognition and topics of student organizations.

Budget Management
  • Serves as the University administrator and primary advisor to the Student Organization Budget and Appropriations Committee (SOBAC) and oversees the SOBAC application, hearings, and allocation process of $175,000 to student organizations
  • Facilitates and reconciles purchasing cards and statements monthly including distribution, reconciliation, and budget management for 170 registered student organizations
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates the student budget managers within the Center for Student Involvement

Office related duties:
  • Serves as a WELL 100: Introduction to Collegiate Life instructor for one section per semester
  • Serves on a variety of university and divisional committees, as determined by the Associate Director for Student Engagement and Director of Student Involvement
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Student Engagement
  • Serves as primary liaison with the Accounting, Controller's and the Office of Planning and Budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Student-centered approach to work and strong ability to work with historically underrepresented students
  • Knowledge of and experience working with student organization management software
  • Understands the fundamentals to event and program planning
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external community partners
  • Collaborate, co-create, and build partnerships offices and students
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1-3 years in working with student organizations, budget management, and/or student leaders is required. Experience working with event or programming planning and implementation is preferred.

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Working evenings and on weekends is a requirement of the position

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $44,775.00 to $59,325.00 annually)
