Job Summary/Basic Function:
Oversee operations of the university apartments and fraternity/sorority housing and summer housing. Oversee all facets of the conduct process residential life training and development needs within Housing and Residence Life.

Level Scope:
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives

Essential Functions:
  • Directly Supervise 4-5 Resident Directors, providing support, guidance, evaluation and overall direction to the day-to-day oversight for residential communities.
  • Indirectly supports 2 graduate resident directors
  • Indirectly supports approximately 150 student employees such as Resident Assistants (RAs), Community Assistants (CAs), Desk Assistants (DAs), and Office Assistants (OAs)
  • In collaboration with the Director & Associate Director, recruit, select, train, assess, evaluate, and provide professional development for Resident Directors (RDs), graduate positions and student staff
  • Uses concepts of human-centered design to identify needs of students and innovate hiring, training and evaluation.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a model for recruitment, selection, and ongoing development, training, and evaluation for all Housing and Residence Life student staff including desk assistants, office assistants,SRAs, RAs, and CAs.
  • Develops and implements a centralized and coordinated model for student staff and desk operations, logistics, training, scheduling, and hiring.
  • Works with Administrative Assistant to maintain efficient operational logistics of student staff recruitment, hiring and evaluation.
  • Ensure recruitment and retention of student and professional staff is reflective of the diversity of the student body.
  • Chairs/co-chairs the student employment experience committee
  • In relationship with the director, identifies opportunities for and delivers experiences that embed Human-centered/Design Thinking in the work of the department and professional staff.
  • Assist in the coordination and collection of assessment data for each residential community; assessing student satisfaction and mattering and belonging. Use data to recommend and initiating solutions to problems or issues in systems and procedures.
  • Maintain budget oversight for areas of responsibility, prepares and allocates spending within assigned areas, demonstrates sound fiscal management practices, and ensures spending complies with Housing and Residence Life, University, and State policies/guidelines.
  • Cultivate effective and mutually supportive working relationships with members of the division and campus that further the strategic Objectives and key results of Housing and Residence Life Address behavioral problems and emergencies, as applicable.
  • Confront situations in which University and/or Housing & Residence Life policies and community standards may be violated, as well as assist live-in professional and paraprofessional and staff members with the resolution of difficult confrontation situations.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of fall, winter, and spring training for Residence Life professional and student staff.
  • Participate in outreach events, coordinate housing components of BroncoWelcome, Bronco Day, and recruitment events (eg. Blue & Orange Day, Discover Boise State, etc.)
  • Serve on 24-hour "Back-up" duty (day, evening, holiday, and weekend) 365 days a year in rotation with other senior level Housing & Residence Life staff supporting RDs on Duty and responding to a variety of emergencies. On-call services include: crisis and emergency response, facility maintenance, direction and support for RDs and/or student staff, and conflict resolution for residents living in on-campus housing facilities (approximately 3000 students).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Experience developing and implementing a department orientation/onboarding process.
  • Experience implementing systems and processes to hire, evaluate, schedule, etc. student staff
  • Experience working with teams using one or more of the following: Inclusive Excellence, Strengths-based leadership, DISC and/or Emotional Intelligence
  • Experience creating and using a strategic plan and budget to achieve specific measurable outcomes
  • Experience advising student groups at a college/university
  • Experience supervising student staff in a university residential life program
  • Coursework, training, or other education in a human-centered/design thinking methodology
  • Experience coaching and others to learn and apply principles of human-centered/design thinking design
  • Fluency in a second language to better meet the needs of students in the Boise State Community
  • Demonstrated skills in working with individuals and groups with a wide array of identities and life experiences, including gender, disability, race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, culture, religion, etc.
  • Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience plus 2 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or Equivalent
    • Specify Area Preferred: Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Counseling
