Kenyon College is conducting a search to fill two positions of Assistant Director of Career Development. The Assistant Directors are members of the Career Development Office (CDO), which is positioned within the Academic Affairs Division. The Assistant Directors report to an Associate Director of Career Development. The Assistant Directors support the mission of the College by offering career advising and programming; conducting outreach and support to faculty, campus and external partners; and providing oversight of specific initiatives within a focus area, either mentorship or experiential learning.

Career Advising

  • Assist a diverse community of students and alumni in evaluating their skills, values and professional interests through advising, workshops, programming, and self-reflection exercises. Coach students and alumni through securing internship and job opportunities by offering feedback and assistance with identifying and assessing opportunities, resume and cover letter writing; networking; interviewing; and professional etiquette. Strive to scale counseling reach through development of digital resources, programming and group advising.

Programming

  • Determine workshop and programming needs of the student body and campus groups, such as Black Student Union, Unity House, ADELANTE, ECO, Greek organizations, and student-athletes. Conduct career workshops and programming for students, faculty, and staff. Regularly assess and evaluate programs' effectiveness through survey collection and analysis.

Outreach and Support

  • Serve as a liaison to several academic departments, communicating regularly with the chair to share resources, upcoming events, and relevant job and internship leads. Develop and provide customized programming in partnership with academic departments. Attend local, regional or national conferences and committees related to primary job functions. Assist with the development and maintenance of the web pages and resources.

Focus Area (responsible for one)
Each Assistant Director will actively support the growth and development of one focus area in direct collaboration with an Associate Director. Current and near-future initiatives are described below, with the expectation that programming will continue to expand within each area according to the evolving needs of students and alumni.

Experiential Learning Focus Area

  • Work closely with Associate Director and The Office of Community Partnerships to grow both the quantity and quality of local experiential learning opportunities through Community Internship Program, volunteering, and Community-Engaged Learning courses. In conjunction with Associate Director, implement and oversee a summer professional development series. In conjunction with Associate Director, offer administrative support to EXPL 205/206 courses. Create, maintain and update resources and programming to help students and employers maximize the student employment experience on campus. Join the Summer Internship Stipend committee and oversee donor stewardship of endowed funds. Ensure experiential learning representation at Kenyon's annual Showcase event. Regularly update CDO staff on available and upcoming experiential learning opportunities to share with students, academic departments and campus partners. Other duties as assigned by Associate Director.

Mentorship Focus Area

  • In conjunction with Associate Director, oversee management of the Professional Extension Project program. In conjunction with Associate Director, implement and oversee a Student Ambassador Program. Advise and assist alumni and parents interested in becoming involved in mentorship. Monitor and increase engagement for the Kenyon Career Network among both alumni and students. Develop resources, processes and materials to support the Job Shadow Program. Conduct career-related programming as part of the First-Year Experience. Provide support to formal mentoring programs, including those run by the Career Development Office; Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and alumni affinity groups. Other duties as assigned by Associate Director.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong technological background, with proven track record of utilizing software and technology to streamline processes, create resources, and scale programs. Team player, excited to work collaboratively with others. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Experience addressing career or professional development needs of underrepresented populations. Software proficiencies: Microsoft Office, Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with and affinity for the liberal arts. Career development or advising experience. Certification in one or more career assessment. Software proficiencies: Adobe Creative Suite, Handshake, Wisr.

Working Conditions

This position may require limited travel and the associated physical demands, as well as occasional work during evenings and weekends.
